I'm sorry to hear that! I hope, you're alright?! What ever it is, it made you create a rather intense and dark track. Have you lost somebody recently?Darksynth FX wrote:My humble submission for this month. Life issues are affecting my creativity which makes me very sad!![]()

Thanks a lot for asking! I am going through some kind of midlife crisis at the moment, just turned 38 last Sunday.Taron wrote:I'm sorry to hear that! I hope, you're alright?! Hey all, tweaks as promised!!1
2 more instances of HY-MONO, lost 5 instances of ReaEQ (more track grouping, taking the track count to 51)
Layered up some basses to give a more "funky" feel to the bass lines. Reworked the EQ on the lead "piano" sound to make it a lot less harsh in the upper/high registers (was starting to get too "ringing", to my ears at least!). Dropped the reverb a lot all round to add more clarity to the overall sound. Reworked the kick layers and also rebalanced some of the hats/cymbals. The tuned "bongos" now sit better, not hugely obvious, but are there in the middle solo (might drop that a little in power, not sure yet).
Hope these changes meet with your approval and you like the rather "improvised" jam track.
I will edit the entry on the previous page. If you think I've bodged/mucked up the track, please let me know.
Thanks, and keep 'em rollin' in ...

Just try to get the energy into your music, you have great potential from what I have heard recently. in 3 more years I will be 70 years young and I find that these challanges give me some outlet for my creativity which I simply did not do when I was much younger - worked with lots of bands and people, but not playing very often, mainly being the sound guy and recording person - they thought I was better at that.Darksynth FX wrote: ... You are approaching a time of reflection, which can feel like a crisis at times, but it gives you an opportunity to discover yourself even more deeply and helps you to course-correct, so to say, in the most positive of ways. However, I can tell you, the times right now are exhausting for all ages and there appears to be some kind of drain going on that affects us all. I'm 44 and really feel like it's- internally- some of the most wonderful times I can remember, despite aches and all those pesky signs of aging, hehe. In a way it feels like we're just beginning to grasp the power and privilege it is to be human. It's a departure of our former ideas, which we should embrace and enjoy the really immense gain of wisdom ahead of us now.Darksynth FX wrote:Thanks a lot for asking! To fight the loss of energy, try to replenish it with nice, fresh food, finding a good rhythm for yourself and enjoy your passions, but also allow yourself to rest, when you feel like resting! Use it to reflect, use it to play with your mind a little and seek out greater clarity! So much nonsense we have accumulated into our head that it sometimes really weighs down our soul. Unravel all the junk a bit and look through it, see what is worth keeping, if any, and shake off the rest, piece by piece!
Everything is about to get so much better!

@Taron, well spoken, +1 to all of that! I relate to every word actually... especially (but not limited to) signs of aging, privilege, former ideas, wisdom, energy, fresh food (it's a surprisingly hard transition), oh and in my case, the mental nonsense, so much mental nonsense.
40 was a tough year for me healthwise and, while fully recovered, after a hard day at work I have no energy for music. Over the summer & fall, I was riding to work, about 4km each way, and that exercise seemed to improve my energy. But now, winter doldrums have set in, and when I load up my project and a dozen instances of some synth has forgotten all its parameters... summer's "challenge accepted" turns into "meh I think I'll play with the cat".
anyway @Darksynth, I'm feel compelled add more, even though what Taron said is perfect. One advice I don't take myself often enough, is to just play music for fun sometimes. Producing -- tracks, podcasts, probably even DJ sets & mixtapes -- feels a lot like work. For me at least, that's partly because it's all screen & mouse nowadays, and partly because there's a deadline and audience. Music can be quite the opposite though... play... so ensure you have a low-friction musical jamming setup for yourself that's just for fun. If I were rich, I'd build a Eurorack monster, but for now, I jam mostly with toy synths of various sorts, or of course MuLab.

Very good advice ... I often just sit down at the keyboard and play whatever comes into my head. Sometimes I fire up some synths and muck around ... even bash around with Reason instruments - I have various simple setups with arps, delays and sequencers so I can doodle and get some nice little "performances" going ... I NEVER record these sessions, but they do inspire and make me smile sometimes - so definitely worth having something ready to go, and simply do it ... and remember, it doesn't always have to be dark (hehe!)psmacmur wrote: ... Hello!
Great submissions so far! Here is the first draft of my own. This is my first entry to an OSC, and I'm new to both producing and KVR, so don't expect too much... I'm optimistic though. I'll probably make a few tweaks before the end of the month, but here goes anyway. Enjoy!

Welcome to the gang, Clay! Nice debut!
Your drums, bass and arps are very nice and strong. I think the balance to the "lead" is a bit off, though, which really pushes forward too hard in my opinion, but the vibe is great!
I've tweaked mine, too, already, probably will do so some more before the end. Good choice to kick it off with some chance for feedback before it's over.
Cheers, and welcome again!

I'll see if I bother to mix my entry, I didn't feel that I was learning much with this synth as much as fighting it, and again tried a new genre for me... as a result I lost interest quite fast and just decided to render what I got and be done with it, participation achievement unlocked
Going to stick with my niche genres if there's some interesting instruments in the OSC future.
