the filter in v3, to me, sounds way better than in v2.olikana wrote:so yes the arturia one is updated to a 0df. last time i tried the miniV was many years ago and thought it was poor but the new version might be worthy.

trying the arturia mini v3 now with the new filter and it is indeed good. more than good enough for punchy electrofunk sounds. while the mini V which I had many years ago wasn't right. I like also the added features . so yeah people need to give them a 2nd chance, though arturia should upgrade all their products with 0df filters or stop selling their old products marketed as analog emulations.
edit: I see they updated to v3 also a few of their old synths. oh well i'm not as up to date on softsynths these days.

a very late reaction considering i edited that part out hours ago.izonin wrote:^ This is like saying that Access Virus sounds like garbage. Plastic is not garbage. Plastic is fantastic.

but yeah not a fan of old dsp filters and their sluggish plasticky sound when modulated. surely don't miss them.

I don't really care about how close an emulation is to the hardware. I just like the sound of The Legend and after playing a bit with the demo I purchased it. It just sounds so damn good and that's all I care about

all about taste. for me it's the 80s (1980-1985) and the new 80s (synthwave) thats being made since 2013 as 0df filters arrived.. and also there's now more pleasing analog sounds in pop music... though the overused vulgar rapping spoils it. but no filter technology seems to be able to get rid of that unfortunately.recursive one wrote:Yeah, this is epicizonin wrote:^ This is like saying that Access Virus sounds like garbage. If you are interested how a freeware synth Xhip compares to the sound at .
Not saying it is 100% perfect, just that it is close enough dry and probably would be impossible to distinguish in a full mix with effects.
And it is not even a MM emulation.

Any two waves, identical in shape, mixed together, with one of them very slightly detuned from the other will produce a beating/phasing type of effect. This is true for any wave and any synth, digital or analog.
It seams to me that this happens unintentionally in some older analog synths because of the imperfect tuning of the oscillators. Some emulations intentionally do replicate that.
It's very easy to achieve. BUT the detuning has to be very small, otherwise it will sound like unison.

I really thought that Monark was the best and closest to the real thing before I saw this shootout. I have to admit, The Legend is just that much closer to the real deal. For $99, I had to grab it. This is my first product from Synapse. I think they have done an excellent job with The Legend.

True, quite a few analog synths have such largely linear filters. Personally I'm not a fan of those filters though, typically they are 12dB state-variable types with no self-oscillation. Certainly vintage synths with such filters can sound amazing, I just think that it is not the filter that makes them sound amazing, but rather other components- such as the oscillators or envelopes.olikana wrote:so yes the arturia one is updated to a 0df. last time i tried the miniV was many years ago and thought it was poor but the new version might be worthy.
a 0df can be linear or nonlinear...as long as ther'se no delay in the filter feedback it behaves like an analog filter . not all analogs have saturation going on. for example the korg minilogue is pretty linear . so was synths like the jx-8p. but the minimoog has a lot of saturation in the filter so also the nonlinear parts need to be replicated to sound authentic.
