Do all DAWs suck?

by the way, I don't think any DAWs suck. I think they are all awesome and I usually think we are lucky to have them ... except when I realize they help to diverge that quantity vs quality graph in an exponential way.
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

^^^^ this!! The choice we have in DAWs today and the features they have are amazing! I remember when all I had was a Portastudio, one microphone and (later, when I could afford) an Alesis nanoverb - one effect at a time. And still I made music with it (it sucked badly, though, but that was my incompetence).

that speaks directly to my quantity vs quality statement.... garbage in, garbage out.inkwarp wrote:On the whole you will get back from the DAW as much as you are prepared to put into it.

None...maybe it's not the DAW that sucks...maybe it's, someon-something else.

My TNC comments don't get much love but it's not true here. I've had this particular computer nearly 5 years now (mind blowing) and most hosts behave VERY differently. Some don't crash at all, other crash all the time.
It's not even logical. They are NOT coded the same and definitely don't all work the same.
Of course I'll be trolled by this, common sense and KVR do not go hand in hand

I didn't say they were all the same, I said they were all great. We are completely spoiled for choice. Some people will never, ever be happy with anything ever. Some people get on just fine with 15/20 year old software and computers.incubus wrote:This is still going?SJ_Digriz wrote:by the way, I don't think any DAWs suck. this is true, there are people on the Samp forums on like Samp 7. I agree about being spoiled as well but I have never lost sight of that. I still remember sitting with catalogs dreaming of my dream studio with 8 or even better 16 track recorder, board, rack gear and then the dismay of the reality when it came to the cost. Back in 98 when I bought an Akai DPS12 and had an SR-16 it was a dream come true. Now it's so beyond what my mind could have comprehended back when I was looking through those catalogs and as a result my knowledge is also far beyond anything I could have ever imagined as such technology was not available to 99% of the public. I am truly humbled every time I turn on my studio, whether I play my guitar for a few hours or just get lost with a synth I'm in my own space that makes my dream studio of yesteryear a joke. I never forget that and I found Samp worked best for me, but it could be any host tbh and it would still be amazing when I look back. Now I own a house with my own room for my studio and while nothing is perfect suck it does not.SJ_Digriz wrote:I didn't say they were all the same, I said they were all great. The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.
