Okey dokey.

bit of an update re Sierra: The new OS and new Logic seem to have settled in. Logic is now extremely fast in loading, so far no problems at all. All I can say is 'wow.' I paid €179 for this proggy in 2013. I think it is amazing value (but you have to buy the overpriced hardware!!!!! :x ) especially for someone who prefers Macs, and would use them anyways.

Christmas in January!!! :hyper:

Wow very nice update!

Btw: Hot tip for easily finding where everything goes on your mac, the app Grand Perspective for around 3$ on app store, visualizes the whole disc. I used it to clear out lots of junk recently, awesome stuff.

Sorry for continuing slightly off-topic, I also wanted to talk about 10.4... but let me write this first. This is not in defense of any particular computer, OS or music software, just my experiences and observations.

I have used Logic as my main DAW for around 22 years. I started on PC (when the first PC versions were released), then moved to Mac (since it was the only way to use audio), then back to PC, and finally to Mac for good in 2004 (when Apple bought the software). Since 2004, I have had three Mac Pros (2004, 2008, 2013). The current one is showing no signs of getting old and slow, and I’m pretty sure I’ll be OK with it for at least another year or two. For me, 4-6 (or even 7) years is a perfectly acceptable time for using a computer before I need to start considering a new one. And no matter what you think about the ”trash bin” Mac Pro, I have been very happy with it. It never makes a sound, it’s small, it works, and for the past 5 years I have basically just used it without even realizing it’s there.

I got burned once when upgrading to a new OS X a little too early - I think that was around 2009, don’t remember exactly which version it was. Anyway, it caused some strange behaviour in several plugins, and I learned then not to always just blindly update to the latest OS X as soon as it’s released.

That being said, I have had no major problems since then, even though I have usually always upgraded to the latest OS X version before the next one is released. I use dozens of plugins, mostly from the big ones (NI, Waves, Plugin Alliance, Softube, Toontrack, Spectrasonics, FabFilter, u-he, several others), and don’t remember ever having any major issues (besides the one... :D)

The reason I recently upgraded to High Sierra is HEVC support in Final Cut, which is important for me. I first tested HS on my laptop (where I have all the same plugins and software), didn’t notice any problems. Then did the same on Mac Pro, no problems there either. The only minor glitch is that some u-he plugins don’t show presets in alphabetical order any more, due to a change in a low-level system function, but that will be fixed later.

I have a lot to complain about Logic, OS X, and Macs, but still, time and again I come to the conclusion that this is still the best option, at least for me. Or, it could be that after 22 years, my brain just refuses to try and learn anything new or different... who knows. :D

Still, very happy about 10.4. and all the new stuff! I didn’t see this in any official release notes, but I just noticed that they basically killed MIDI draw, and now there’s just track & region based automation, which makes much more sense.

Well I'm back

now to install Logic update

ugh Sierra still has that ugly baby blue folder colour - had to disable SIP last time to get rid of it

I saw someone point out that the presets are contained in one of the optional downloads (near the bottom of the list?).

Agreed about the layout... Apple is continually not demonstrating wisdom in GUI design...
Haven't read through the rest of thread since I posted Thursday night but I already downloaded all "Reverb" updates from the download center before my first post and no dice.

I love the new GUI's. I have no problem with flat design. It's functional, easy on the eyes and easy to work with. Very much looking forward to when Sculpture gets the new GUI

Haven't even had a chance to try half the new stuff yet! :o
+1 on the look. Actually I love the look. Best yet imho
I really like flat design too, and the trend audio plugins using it is surely welcome. :)
I'm fine with flat design but IMO Valhalla does it way better than Apple in terms of prioritizing text readability at all scalings. The Logic stuff has very small, narrow fonts for a given window size and lots of wasted blank space. Form over function.

It is not appearing on mine, and there aren't any colors displaying in the graphical display. Not sure why this is happening? I sent a bug report to Apple, but who knows if they'll respond. I'm on 10.12.6 Sierra, Mid 2011 27" imac, 12 gig RAM. Looking for some possible reasons.
YES, I'm seeing this too, but what's weird is that the display is only missing on my Mac Pro, but it's fine on my MBP. Both are running OS 10.12.6. Still trying to figure it out.... :?
Hate to ask an obvious question but are you on the Details page or the main one? Details page lacks that button and apparently doesn't have spectrum analyzer (odd, given that stock Logic EQ has it).

The Apple way. :hihi: Nah, they are all more or less like that nowadays. :) At the moment i'm quite p***ed off that every smartphone, even the middle class ones, come with a glass back now... drop that thing just once, and the glass is shattered, i just had that on one. Form over function, definitely. Back in the days, you at least were able to hold those things in the hand, and they weren't as slippery as they are nowadays, just to look and feel valuable.

Yeah, I really don't see any reason to use Logic and Mac's anymore, have perfectly decent 5 year old PC around that with little investment can serve me for few more, also Bitwig is just "there" at this point, been demo-ing it for last few months and Logic just don't have much over it IMO, gonna wait for public demo of 2.3 and guess that's it.
This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here? :D ShawnG

grr updater has been stuck on '2 mins' for the last 40!

I just put up a post covering some of the cool stuff in the update: http://admiralbumblebee.com/music/2018/ ... -10-4.html

Obviously there's a lot more than that to the update, but it's the major bits.

Great video that goes through a bunch in 10.4 including Smart Tempo, ChromaVerb (notice the low CPU Meter when it's in use along with the ANA Synthesizer,) and the Camel Audio additions. Well done.

The horns and strings aren't half bad. By that I mean, pretty decent. Okay, pretty darn nice so far.

As to switching to Live, or Bitwig. Live is what it says it is, best for Live performance. Or sound creation. Bitwig is about two years from being mature but is extremely fun to play with if you like that Eurorack modular stuff. Live costs $600 configured as Logic. Bitwig $300. Neither are as configurable/tailorable as Logic.

And you'll find just as many people complaining about stuff as you will with Logic. Actually, more. Witness 7 years of requests for comping in Live. I'm guessing that if you were into live or sound creation, you'd already have one or the other. For straight up recording and production, neither can touch Logic. It's not even close. Start talking Cubase or Pro Tools for that.

I understand frustration with Apple. Especially with all the arrogance involved, but I don't think you're going to find the grass any greener.

Looks great. :tu: It would be quite a bizarre thing indeed if one of the wealthiest technology companies on the planet couldn't afford to keep a good team of skilled developers hammering away at their daw churning out regular nice updates.
