Or the new Graindad from Sugar Bytes?
https://sugar-bytes.de/graindad
Pretty expensive at almost 100E….although they may be different in a approach you will probably get similar sounding results with either…granular is the overriding fx here.
I think they're very different. They both use granular synthesis but graindad is much more of glitch/rhythmic/tonal effect and Fragments is more reverby/cloudy/delay.

There's overlap between them but they seem to occupy different basic functions.

Now that I have RTFM (read the manual) and played around with the triggering and modulation, yes I have to agree. My previous post said they were similar but now that I understand the details. I agree the only similarity is the granular engine. after that they do different things with the grains. Graindad is all about triggering and modulation.

That Coldfire might start gaining popularity with Trash users. It's not quite the same, but iZotope just announced they were discontinuing Trash, along with Iris and Breaktweaker, so users are going to want to have some place to go.

I got to admit, I kind of saw the last 2 coming which is why I've been reluctant to use them, but Trash?!? Man that thing was so popular. Who knows, though, the best parts of these things might reemerge in something new, like they have done in the past.

Another suggestion would be Waves Berserk and optional running that through their multiband MultiMod... or StudioRack.

I never took to Trash.. I might give it another chance. I remember thinking it's pretty extreme.

Coldfire is impressive though... maybe the presets represent itself better than Trash?

Not sure if there is any point getting into Trash now as iZotope is dropping Trash, it won't see a VST3 version so its days are numbered....

But I can see it being reimagined and maybe added as module into Neutron. They already have made a similar type move already.

Trash 2 was buggy. Sometimes I couldn't open a project that used Trash 2. Got rid of it.

Simple, yet effective... not the Composition but the Choice of Plugins here. Fragments has really set the Bar to a new Level for Grain - Effects. :phones:

Kind of sucks that they separate the synths and effects, so fragments is $99 for me even though I have arturia collection V8. I'll wait for a sale.

What's even worse was that I owned some of their effects and when they came out with FX Collection, there was no upgrade price. WTF? So, I waited until someone was selling their license and then sold my spare licenses and made my own discount.

Sounds like they made it so you have to actually specifically buy an fx collection for any discount prices for the singular effects lol. Kinda lame to me.

Processing a plucked piano sound (PianoTeq) with Arturia's granular effect Fragments, tweaking the installed Macros and other things on the fly, VVV reverb added in the mix.

Beautiful! Where does one find that Tranquilizer patch for Fragments?
