Yep, of all the Mini emulations I have or have tried (most of them, bar the UAD one), the Softube is the one that feels/sounds the most "old"/vintage to me. It was actually too much, and turned me off it.Uncle E wrote: Thu Mar 09, 2023 9:07 pmPretty different sounding. Minimosta2 is brighter and has more clarity. Model 72 is softer and spongier.
With Legend, you can "age" up the model by switching to the early rev Minimoog model and adding some colour with the saturation control, and this gives me as much "old" as I need. The Moog Model D plugin also feels vintagey but about right for how I'd like a vintage Mini to sound. Minimonsta does sound more like Legend in it's later revision, tighter and cleaner unless you crank up the feedback etc. Monark feels somewhere in-between I guess.
The Softube does sound good but it was trying too hard to be "70s" for my tastes and music, I like a "newer" sounding and tighter Minimoog in general, not that old soft 70s prog-rock thing, hence I never gelled with it (also, wasn't keen on the interface either).
Good that we have so many options though, in terms of sound, character and interfaces - each of us can settle on the bowl of (er, Minimoog) porridge that's "just right"...
