lol that ESP video above literally starts with 10 nightmarish minutes of config, installation, authentication... it's 2024 folks. This is draconian. I guess Montage hardware owners can get "excited" about setup that makes you feel like you're still using 90s computers. Have fun! :tu:

look closely, your statement is inprecise:
he says: ..."it´s"......,

a statement true for the present.
We do not know anything about "how this all evolves".

let´s hope !

And glad i´m not a "Montage without a M" owner. ;)
"Plugin has turned Drug now"....and the business knows it.

Did you watch the whole Video or did you just take something out of context to suit what you want?

He clearly said NO sale of the plugin and you need a Montage M to get it ;)
Listen Closely from 7:16 in the Video :tu:

That's like saying it's the most expensive ballpoint pen in the world (if you got it with your new car). Yamaha wants to sell more of its hardware and the software version is therefore free. It's not unfair in any way.

Post

So maybe buy Montage synth, install the software and re-sell the synth, seems to be the only way. I don't think the majority of synth players or users care about daws or softsynths anyway, so maybe they can or will sell the softsynth!?

Of course it's not unfair.

But, 99.9% of the customers who purchase the hardware synth probably don't plan to only use the vst and let the hardware collect dust. They purchase it because they need the hardware, the vst is just a bonus.
I doubt any plugin customer will buy the hardware synth, so they can ONLY use the plugin.
Business wise, it seems pretty dumb to give up on the plugins market when you already have a plugin ready to deploy, and limiting its distribution only for hardware customers.

Post

The problem i see with this kind of marketing is People returning their Montage after they have Authorized the Plugin version + it might end up on some Pirate ship and released that way.

And what will happen to the vst version when the Montage Sale goes down or they replace it with another product?
Will it still be supported and kept upto date or will it go the same way that most software editors has done in the past and be abandoned?

I am not sure that is necessary, really. I own a license for Halion 7 (and Cubase Pro 13), but not a Montage. I am not entirely sure what a Montage plugin would provide for me that I would want and use. I suppose AN-X fans might be happy with the interface. I never used an AN-X, though. Maybe the sample-based presets? The FM-X engine was a significant addition to Halion 6 and elevated its FM capabilities above those of Falcon. Wouldn’t an AN-X engine in a plugin be more analogous to a scripted instrument that uses functionality available in Halion 7 already?

Their loss, unless they change their mind later on.

EDIT: watched it again and he says "It's free only for Montage owners".
And currently buying a Montage is the only way to get ESP.
Open to interpretation IMO

Halion already has a VA synth that's IMO more capable than AN-X.

In my opinion, this is a very good combo - VST instrument in studio work and hardware on stage
