i've been on the middle oversampling though, i need to select Ultra or whatever next time i open Nepheton.

So good to have it back in my kit. Thank you D16 Group!
Unfortunately, I have the same feeling. I had hoped to get a bit closer to it too. There is still something different in my perception.

I think it's a fantastic drum machine on it's own with an 808 inspired sound that I fully recommend to have. I'm even not saying a 808 is better. But I'm still not 100% satisfied as an emulation.

How do you think some time later sqigls?
I feel the same. But not in comparison to the hardware, but to the Roland Cloud version. I do like Nepheton 2, especially how flexible it is. But there is still something in the Roland Cloud one that feels more the real deal, particularly the snare. I've been thinking I might just multi-sample the Roland 808 snare with round robins and use that in combination with Nepheton.

yeah i had to give up comparing it and just enjoy what it is. I have a few other 808 plugins that have a more favourable 808 snare sound. I don't know if maybe D16's 808 sounds exactly like that or perhaps getting it sound more accurate would take the CPU hit through the roof? I was hoping Nepheton 2 would sound a lot more like the hardware sound I'M familiar with, but it still sounds good and i'll be using it a lot. I think I'm actually liking it more as i go, the hats aren't too bad, but the snare i might often replace with a sample.

one thing that pings me off about their plugins is that i can't see the current value of a knob upon mouseover until i move the knob, thus defeating the purpose of knowing what the current value is.

I like to mix with it samples too. Works also great to get a bit different color. I even wondered if a super simple sampler with RR that can be switched with the synth modules would be a great addition.

That's interesting. For me it's primarily the hat department where I prefer samples. The snare on the other hand sounds quite similar to my sample and to how I know a 808. Would be funny when a large part of this perception is just normal 808 model variance plus our personal preference to things we know.

Same for me. But I don't want to have the popup on mouseover at the same time.

That's one of the reasons why I don't like the trend to use popups to show the values. A fixed field in the plugin is much better for me to use, because it works great with mouseover in combination. Like U-he synth.

Is it maybe enough to show the popup as soon as you mousedown on the button?

I agree. A workaround is to right click the knob.

I cannot get Nepheton 2 to cut through other instruments. It seems to be a bit invisible. Great sound on it´s own though...
As soon I add other instruments, it disappears - especially the kickdrum. Pity.
Have to try the high-quality-mode.

Might seem silly to ask but have you tried EQing around the drums or side chain compression. It’s not really uncommon for electronic instruments to compete for sonic space.

Post

Not really EQ ing very much  . Tend to ditch drums for others that are beefier with less effort in mixing tasks. Sidechain is a thing I use pretty often. Love shaperbox for that.

the new Dropkick plugin is the perfect enhancer for Nepheton's kick drum.

THX :)
Will make Dropkick to visit my drums!

It sounds like a normal mix problem or wrong sound setting for the specific track? That's what I would focus on. In my experience the kick generator is fine.

Watched some "Mix Kick and 808" tutorials now on YT :)

I find Nepheton's hats cut through the mix a bit too much. They have a nasty resonance that's absent from the original 808. Always have to notch that out to stop my ears bleeding.

@ Vortifex
Yes, the hats sound quite lofi and need deessing. Definitely not that silky...

@squigls
Dropkick is badass!! Wow. :o

anyone found a way to use patch change messages or similar to change saved kits in a live set?
cheers
