Oh huh, I had no idea!Sampleconstruct wrote: Thu Mar 20, 2025 6:06 amSerum 1 played samples just fine in the noise oscillator which was/is actually a sample player.concealed identity wrote: Thu Mar 20, 2025 6:03 amYou couldn't play samples in Serum 1, but you could use the FX as an effects plugin on any other instrument. So if all you're doing is playing a sample and putting some effects on, then yeah you could do that in Serum 1.ilovemusicjake wrote: Thu Mar 20, 2025 2:23 am Man, I'm digging this thing. As someone who makes a lot of trap, both EDM and rap, being able to throw 808 samples into a Serum wavetable position and beef them up and distort them with all the effects from Serum 1 is a game changer. Hopefully you couldn't do this in Serum 1 or I'd look like a fool. LOL! Shout out to Steve Duda, the goat.
But even ignoring the new effects added, I'd argue that being able to frequency split the effects is a pretty big deal. This isn't impossible to do otherwise, but usually requires either a dedicated plugin or quite a bit of effort.

Just for fun, I loaded the same wavetable into Serum 1 and 2 (analog BD sine), both with exactly the same parameters and Phase inverted Serum 2. Very close but not a totally perfectly null. I still had signal at about -60db. So would seem that there is some difference between the engines of S1 and S2 (or my test was flawed).

No idea if it would make a difference, but there is an S1 compatability mode switch in GLOBAL.

from my experiences i wouldnt use Serum 2 to replace Serum 1 in old projects. even Serum 1 had some differences with some patches between versions. i had around 5 patches which sounded different, installed the old version and then exported as STEMS.
for Serum 2 i do 2 seperate preset folders as well. so if i would use Serum 1 i wouldnt get confused with Serum 2 patches which wont work of course

Hoping for a CPU optimization of the granulator, even on my M3 Max Mac, at the highest sample buffer in Logic 11.1.2 CPU maxes out with just a few voices played, this can't be right, any other granulator I use would laugh at this patch...

In the Global tab -> Quality section there's a toggle "S1 Compatibility Mode". You might get more equivalent results with that toggled on.swilow11 wrote: Thu Mar 20, 2025 9:49 am Just for fun, I loaded the same wavetable into Serum 1 and 2 (analog BD sine), both with exactly the same parameters and Phase inverted Serum 2. That's not unusual for any non-modular synth. Even analog synths from the 70s called it "S&H" when the only thing it could sample was the white noise generator.PeterBPL wrote: Thu Mar 20, 2025 2:03 pm I was trying to figure out why Sample&Hold LFO generates just random values instead of working like Sample&Hold. It's not S&H at all, it's random generator.

Serum 2 patch with three santur tremolos (one in each oscillator) split across the keyboard, Macro automation/modulation wheel action (grain pitch randomization) in Logic.

Sure, let it sample noise generator. But where is that "hold" part?foosnark wrote: Thu Mar 20, 2025 3:29 pmThat's not unusual for any non-modular synth. I was thinking the same thing. I know my computer is getting old, but I can use granular modes in other synths freely without choking out my machine.Sampleconstruct wrote: Thu Mar 20, 2025 2:00 pm Hoping for a CPU optimization of the granulator, even on my M3 Max Mac, at the highest sample buffer in Logic 11.1.2 CPU maxes out with just a few voices played, this can't be right, any other granulator I use would laugh at this patch...
