^^^ yupp, in terms of PR responsiveness Logic is still the closest to FLS, and they’re far ahead of BWS. For me, it’s totally fine to have a tool that focuses on generating happy accidents — since traditional input devices like a MIDI keyboard, or MPE-based ones like Push 3, are anyway much better suited for conventional input than the piano roll. What’s really missing here is retrospective recording and MIDI comping.
it can't be reprodcued with PR so easily ...

As someone who like to play in MPE in live takes (not spend hours editing it) retrospective recording and MIDI comping is the reason I predominantly use Live (with PUSH 3 and Osmose) for MPE stuff. Midi comping is especially useful, no idea why Bitwig ignored this, maybe it doesn't fit with their architecture?
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

MIDI comping does seem like a big omission.
I don’t use comping so much (too used to older workflows of just recording multiple takes on separate tracks) but I would heavily use it if I did not have bad habits baked in already.

And while I'm here, Bitwig should go the FL route and make a vst version of Bitwig so I can load it in Reaper and use it as a modular synth.
Thank you and have a wonderful day.

I plan on checking it out again after Windows releases 12 and seeing what Bitwig is on then.jules99 wrote: Thu Aug 21, 2025 11:55 am Yeah, but what about that one guy and his workflow? Have you thought about him? He's about to leave Bitwig and never look at it again!
I like several of these ideas of improving the stock synths within it and making it a truer workstation environment.
What I've been finding as a workflow killer is the bloat and nag screens to install them. Having to make clicks and tree searches to just get to the same places I need every time without being able to just set it as a personal default.
While I'm leaving Bitwig v4&V5 off my Win10 machine and am currently dedicating it to Cubase, I am still using Bitwig V4 on my Win7 with my hardware keyboards.
But V5 has been an eye opener for me of their lack of not quite listening. And Win11 feels like one of those MS tests of what they can force on the market. (Much like Win8 was before the market pushed back and they updated to 8.1.)
Not completely done with Bitwig. But right now, they've killed my desire to go in that direction is all.

I'm glad there is so much choice on the DAW market. My wish for them is to continue their modular philosophy and extend their visons in unseen territory. Let the traditional guys go to the dozen of other DAWs out there. No hard feelings.

I think the BWS idea is good — to wrap the majority of use cases into traditional or traditional-looking devices like Polymer, Filter+, etc. (especially if we can even convert within the same device family in the basic cases), and then whoever wants to experiment can convert them into a synth or FX Grid ... two birds, one stone casesmuzicxs wrote: Thu Aug 21, 2025 6:58 pm I'm glad there is so much choice on the DAW market. If this is Bitwig's policy, then I agree with you. I have almost abandoned it, but the fact it is the only DAW I can work with in Linux made me keep using it (I might give Reaper more chances though!).muzicxs wrote: Thu Aug 21, 2025 6:58 pm I'm glad there is so much choice on the DAW market. Anyway, I'm still using Windows 11 and Mac and Bitwig is not my first choice here, not as a DAW and not as a sound source! I like orange! But that is not enough reason to keep me spending on its updates
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Surely, they are already doing this? They've added to modulations, routing and to the grid. Whats missing for you in terms of modularity (for a DAW)?muzicxs wrote: Thu Aug 21, 2025 6:58 pm I'm glad there is so much choice on the DAW market. Definitely some love for arrangement, piano roll etc is needed so 6 should bring a lot of this.
I'm using Bitwig as a composition, sound design, arranging, mixing and general music production system. If I wanted some modular synth stuff there are other options.

You're selling Bitwig short here. If it was "just" a modular synth I wouldn't be using it, as there are already tens of modular synths out there. Where Bitwig shines is integration all the way through._leras wrote: Sat Aug 23, 2025 4:50 am If I wanted some modular synth stuff there are other options.
Filters? They added multiple filter devices as well as grid modules. Curves? They integrated them in many different ways, even as an oscilator grid device. Modulators? Project and track modulators are a godsend. Didn't even realise I wanted those. And I haven't even mentioned they way probability has been implemented. Integrated in the piano roll and also available as modulators and grid devices.
Bitwig to me is a playground where goals can be met in multiple ways. That's what I call creative freedom.

Before they added project level modulators, I would have yawned at the suggestion... now I couldn't imagine being without it!muzicxs wrote: Sat Aug 23, 2025 7:38 pm Project and track modulators are a godsend. Didn't even realise I wanted those.

Can you describe a real-world example from your work? It's a sincere, genuine question.pdxindy wrote: Sat Aug 23, 2025 9:55 pm Before they added project level modulators, I would have yawned at the suggestion... now I couldn't imagine being without it!

I'm glad there is so much choice on the DAW market. My wish is for them to improve the DAW side of the application with things MIDI-comping, ARA2-support etc. - let the modular tinkerers go to the dozen of other modular hosts out there. No hard feelings.muzicxs wrote: Thu Aug 21, 2025 6:58 pm I'm glad there is so much choice on the DAW market.
