Yeah, but the lesson is that you could have just went to the repository and checked. Chat bots don't need to be used AT ALL in search for information about something like this. They actually complicated things for you.

Yeah, that sounds important. Do you mean the info on github where it has an about section where sometimes they mention the licensing, or is there more of an exact method to get this actual info I'm missing?

You will find in some or all of The About section, the LICENSE file that's in the repository, the README.md for the repository, and within the files of the actual code.

https://github.com/surge-synthesizer/su ... in/LICENSE

Got it, it really was right there, need to look harder next time, it wasn't in the section, but had its own tab there, haha. Sometimes these licenses can get tricky. It seems older versions of dexed are mit, but not the latest one, for instance, in fact, the original source was created and made open by google i believe from which the dexed iteration is based or what not.

On the most part though, ai seems to get really solid results without ever needing to rely on any of these I'm finding, but they often are really good to send them to get better results if what they spit out at first aren't up to speed.

You really gotta check this stuff yourself.

https://github.com/asb2m10/dexed/blob/master/README.md
Dexed is licensed on the GPL v3. The msfa component (acronym for music synthesizer for android, see msfa in the source folder) stays on the Apache 2.0 license to be able to collaborate between projects.

The thing to bear in mind about AI is that it can't think for itself, it can only go on the information its either been trained on and/or aggregated data using a RAG pipeline (google searches, etc.). Also from a technical point of view that data will always be stale as it is a snapshot in time rather than a continuously evolving process, i.e. human thoughts, etc.

AI is only as strong as its weakest link, and when it comes to data then it will always be garbage in, garbage out. NEVER assume what it's telling you is true or accurate in any way. It's nothing more than a tool and should always be treated as such.

I guess also bear in mind that it is programmed to be a people pleaser / (false) validator, because the sickos in silicon valley who are trying to become trillionaires know that we are in a loneliness epidemic, and they can get people hooked and addicted to using this product.

On that note, just added a surge modern style unison with excellent sync to the synth. The sync is unique somehow, it can sound good on highly detuned sounds - wow. Also added a versatile and yet simple fm sections in the osc master panel, similar to surge fm 2 and 3 but goes far, far beyond it. We can change the source of the mod with shapes and I was careful to include the famous positive triangle shape, exceelent for FM in addition to about 8 different FM modes besides the parallel one Surge Implemented. It sounds amazing, and will be quite useful. This alone just beefed up the synth in terms of bread and butter sound like 40% in my opinion. This is definetely solid time well spent.

Thanks for helping me sort out the licensing details, too, not taking that path let to an interesting place.

This will be a great test. I temporarily inserted 'The Surge' code to test the CPUs, but noticed the usage is significantly higher than normal. I will need to investigate this discrepancy later. In the meantime, I am going to ask the AI to remove the temporary code to see if it can clean out every single bit. That should be an interesting test.

Alright, ended up adding about 16 additional FM controls to the surge inspired base, really cool stuff. Now I remember why this stuff is so much fun, when you add the cool stuff and not so much the tedious gui stuff, more or less.

Next up is likely a delay lab, and a dedicated Vocal synthesis engine and a high quality formant pitch like quickquack pitchweel. I believe i stumbled on a row of formants that is opened source I want to try as well, similar to the formants in liquid instruments hopefully where you can "stack" formant filters.

Im testing out good MIT delays, cocoa verb, crystalizer, and wet delay are good. Can anyone recommend any others to try?

EDIT... FOUND CHOW MATRIX, qdelay, IV Delay and 12 time. I wonder if it's smart to implement as many of these as I can if they sound good.

don't like the chow, or the bucket brigade one

The crystalizer one is amazing however, wow :o

This setup of testing the fx in a browser is ABSOLUTELY a delightful workflow, painless. It's quite easy to edit the fx as well, I can throw all kinds of weird stuff in the delay lines, will try to make a monster of a delay as well. Wow 8)

Im implementing these delays into the synth, in addition to unique ones from scratch.

WetDelay → Lo-fi digital / 24k / bit-depth color
Cocoa Delay → Warm character / ducking / pan / drive
Crystallizer → Granular pitch delay
AnotherDelay → Clean filtered delay
Karadag → Smooth zero-click delay foundation
IV-X modified → Tape scrape / friction tone delay
MDA combo → Ring/detune/flange delay
