as much control as you do over an oscillator. I fail to see your point.

Not too special, but here's a combi trancegate template I made for myself earlier tonight, I just demo'd it beside Vanguard's GAT Space Wah MS and it sounds similar. I think if I really tried I could get close, I'm not sure exactly what the vanguard's TG is doing differently.
Anyway, point taken, all synths have some unique character that sets them apart. I doubt many people would be truly happy to only use Reason alone.
Reason 3 is a nice app, but not a replacement for every thing else out there (not by a long shot). But you can probably get most of the sounds you're looking for, via Combinator and sampling, and pretty easily I might add. I think one of the best reasons to use Reason is you don't need to learn 50 different UIs and ways of doing things. A few building blocks and you're off and running.

I haven't tried it, but wouldn't a Matrix wired to a mixer volume cv do the trick? Using the Matrix you could then create far more complex patterns than vanguard too. And you could do stereo gating if you use two Matrix's and two mixer channels I guess, as well.lucille wrote: Also, I have not been able to duplicate the vanguard trance gate sound. If anyone has a trancegate rig--
I'd be interested to hear it.

I can't hear how Vanguard (an excellent synth BTW) has a better trancegate than a matrix cv'd to a synth's amp envelope
Maybe it's a character thing, but I don't hear much difference. Benefit of the doubt though. I'm not as familiar with the intimacies of trancegates or Vanguard myself.

I do think all the wires at the back of Reason give me a better idea of what is going on with my setup than some other visual displays might. Even a synth like Vanguard. I really feel like I can tell what is doing what, and definitely have control of what I'd like to change; Maybe it's because I used hardware before getting into software, like a comfort thing (though I never could have afforded all Reason's 'hardware').

Yes, a sample can be used as Oscillator. With the new Combi can you use custom create your own filters. Using a Vocoder as filter can sound cool too
I am always thinking when I am using a VSTis: how can I program this in Reason. You will not always get 100% accurate results, but it's fun to get very close or improve the original model or just invent something new.
Possibilities with Reason are endless. Thanks to the new Combinator you can now save very complex routings.

Sampling guitars is lame. Sampling a drumkit is lame. Sampling a trumpet is lame. In fact, f**k it, electronic music is lame all together! Anything except Frank Sinatra is shit!
