in 8th grade a substitute teach said to me:

"Don't give me an excuse for being late, boy. Excuses are like assholes - everyone has one but they all stink."

sausages are like opinions - everyone compares them to assholes.
or something completely different along those lines.

Guess you didn't take it! :? :) (or maybe you got rid of it, finished your album, have just come back from your sellout world tour and signed up to superfast Broadband!)

Best musical advice, can't remember who from, but it really helps to get things done and dusted:

'Always 'finish' your track before moving onto the next one' - ie don't have 40 half finished tracks lying around. Really helped me to finish my 'album'!

But unfortunately now I have nice and fast Broadband and haven't written anything for ages!!!!!

Cheers

Simon D'souza

Edit: Just visited your web site Cane, and am listening to your latest track, Neon Lights - guess you did get rid of the internet connection, wrote songs, then needed one to upload all that stuff you made!!!! Very nice it is too - complete chill....
...and so it goes (Kurt Vonnegut)

I like these two a friend told me,

Envy:
Don't worry about what someone else has on their plate or you won't finsih what's on yours.

Relationships/friendships:
If it don't fit don't force it

From another friend:
Don't worry about all the things you may be missing out on as long as the one thing you're doing at the moment you enjoy in this big carnival of life.
=====================================================
A proverb I found somewhere (on the web I think).
The Best time to plant a tree was 25 years ago. The second best time is now.

Let your conscience be your guide.
(wasn't this also in a Disney film? haha)

And last but not most Smile

If in a dispute with your girlfriend/wife, YOU are wrong, ALWAYS - conventional "wisdom".

stop being a c**t. wise words I'm sure you'll agree.

Just got it last night from Mr Patton and his Magnificient Orchestra - just do what ever you want to, if you're good enough, people will scream.

"Do not go to the elves for advice, for they will say both yes and no." -J.R.R. Tolkien

Actually very good advice. The wise can look at an issue from many angles, and it will sometimes be difficult for them to give a black and white answer.

That's my strategy too. If I need advice on a difficult matter, I always take it to the village idiot. If his answer is too blurry, I take it to the republicans, and if even they fail to make a clear case of it, I just sit down and watch Fox News for a few days - if they don't come up with a clear-cut opinion on my problem within 48 hours, it probably wasn't important in the first place. ;)

not advice, but illuminating observation:

"even a broken clock is right twice a day"

not original, but i've used that reply many, many times...

KVR: come for the music, stay for the polemics and grammar lessons...

Unless it's digital (as opposed to analog). Another advantage of analog over digital? :)

Tolkien's elves must've been Jewish. "True! But on the other hand, Maimonides said that..." =^_^= Long tradition there.

Mr. Coyote: I prefer a longer version of your last bit of advice. "Smile. It makes people wonder what you're up to." -- not sure who said it; maybe Mark Twain?
