Possibly, but its likely they'd crack your head open on a rock and eat the contents.

I think I'll take the word of ole Dave Attenborough on that one!

Post

I though Les Paul invented the guitar?

Post

early humans were not cannibals. they actually ate more veggies and stuff than animal flesh.

Post

Really? Then maybe they'd offer us a Mango smoothy, even worse!

Jumping in late on this (11 page thread!), and sorry if I missed it (I skipped pages 4-9), but at the start of this thread it was claimed that techno had black origins. I've always thought of techno as a caucasian invention, and proof that white people have souls too!

Post

as far as i understand the evolution of techno, kraftwerk was quite popular with black kids in detroit where the seeds of techno were sowed, and from there techno went back to germany, belgium and from there to the UK and eventually all over the world

chicago house had an influence as well but that had much stronger disco origins

Post

thanks dharmawan. kraftwerk is(was?) german, right? What black techno activity was there in the early stages?

glad some people found my post useful - i guess it was worth spending time writing a long one. :)

anyways, Hollywood has also been remaking loads of 'foreign' films with white American actors/actresses... So yeah, colour of skin definitely does seem to have impact on ticket sales in film industry as well.

'skin colours don't matter' is a nice and appealing slogan, but you can't confuse how you wish the world to be with how the world is now.

Another difficult issue is - try to imagine that you are working for a big hollywood film production company and you are given the script for an ultra-commercial romantic comedy and asked to cast actors/actresses; do you think YOU will be colour blind in picking the cast while keeping the ticket sales in mind?

How about if you were casting for porn movie? Surely you will have preference for what skin colour actors/actresses you prefer? ;) How about when people choose advertisement models?

I think skin colour preference is inevitable at the moment. I'm not sure about future, but one thing for sure is that skin colour preference does exist in large scale and if people can make better profit using this they probably will..

Post

no probs. yeah kraftwerk is german.. there are many sites on the web on the birth of techno and its creators if you wish to know more. here is one interview with derrick may

obviously the detroit artists that "invented" techno were influenced by kraftwerk, YMO etc etc but they moved the sound on to the point where it be labeled as a new genre, techno.

compare kraftwerk to an early techno track such as derrick mays "strings of life".

Depends.. Is Halle Berry or Beyoncé up for the part?

It all depends. Right now the light-skinned, mixed ethnicity thing is in vogue as far as women. Jada, Halle, Beyoncé, Tyra..
Mainly because many suburban caucasian men find them 'exotic' and sexy.

yeh but it can work both ways.

I remember, riding my bike down to Dearborn Music on Michigan Ave (it's got to be 20+ miles one way) and buying Kraftwerk's Pocket Calculator, Gang of Four's Tower of London (I think it was called) and Ultravox's Oh, Vienna on 45's. I just sold the Kraftwerk 45 on eBay not to long ago. :hihi: Detroit is a great music town. Very diverse.
Will MIDI CC for food...
