rockstar_not wrote:I've got a question about uploading master tracks. How long should it take? I've looked at my FTP client at the request and response times, and I'm getting VERY SLOW responses - request to send at 10;40 pm, response received at 11:07 and connection getting re-set.

Is there a way to mail a CD of the files instead?

Scott -- PM TOTC for his mailing address. You can send him your song in the mail, no problems. ;)

I'm sorry about the FTP. I am not sure what the problems are. From here, I can connect instantly, and upload as fast as ever. Many people are saying there are problems, but I can't duplicate them. I do check it each time I get a PM or a complaint about it, but I really try to get it to go slow and it doesn't. It shouldn't be going slow. If it is, it could be many things, such as some firewalls don't allow full bandwidth sometimes(this is rare). Also, your ISP could be busy or limiting your speed. Also, don't expect to upload anywhere near as fast as you download. It won't happen. Some people expect it to, but upload is always slower than download by far.

Not trying to make excuses, but I just can't see the problem. I have no problems and I connect to it just like everyone else. If you REALLY can't get it to upload, then go to yousendit.com and send me the link to your file after you upload it.

I just tried uploading something large again, and it's going full speed.

It's OK mate -- I don't think it's anything to do with your site - I think it's just the way certain ISPs handle the FTP protocol. I am conecting to your site fine (but I haven't tried to upload yet).

Some of the time, in many uploads and downloads from TOTC in the past, it was slow as hell or really ripped along.

I usually have to sit on an 80 to 120 megabyte upload overnight. So it's not unusual. ;)

I also had no problems when connecting to koolkeys' FTP site.

By the way, we're at 87 preorders... :)

I let my upload run overnight. It looks like it required only about 20 minutes for a 79 MB file, so perhaps it did work this time. I'm asking a favor of anyone that has the speedy connection to download my file and audition it. Last time I sent a 24 bit file, it was all -1 from about 1/2 way through the file to the end. The file size looks right on the server as far as I can tell.

Also, I'm still a little worried that my entry may seem contrived. I'd like to get some feedback on whether it is or not.

I also am concerned as I can't seem to get the noise from my mic pre-amp under control. I did the best I could, but with such a 'naked' track (piano and vocal line only), this is very hard to cover up.

Thanks for your time.

You rang?
If you are having problems with FTP: Be sure to reboot the computer - that will clear the residual network transfer cache that may have clogged the temp local area network swap directory. You'll also want to be sure you have the latest NETBOIS and to go to the Extreme tab of the Internet Properties Control Panel so you can check "Enable faster network file transfer protocol using adaptive heuristic probability mode [requires restart]." That way if the file transfer is still too slow, the computer will just take an educated guess about what's coming and fill-in the rest of the file for you. But don't check "Enable remote hard-drive corruption."

Then you'll need to restart again and hold down the ESCAPE and F17 keys until you get to the screen that shows the menu for RAM formatting options. You should select A4 or Letter bur not Legal. Now retry and see if it's faster.

If none of the above helps, you may need to reinstall your OS or get a faster computer.

...Or it could be your ISP. Or the alignment of the stars. Or traffic/interference. I don't know. I'm really not a techno-geek. :?

Scott - you know sometimes raw and 'unfiltered' is kinda cool mate!

I remember that Leon Russel's engineers always had a hard time knocking out the noise of his piano pedals because he literally used to STOMP on the buggars. So they usually just left the noise in there! Didn't hurt his trademark sound -- or his record sales. ;)

MAtey -- relax. We are all about contriving songs -- it's what we do mate! ;)

Cheers,

Scott I haven't listened to your entry since last week, so you may of changed it. But when I came home from getting my wife at work the day I did hear it I said (almost before she could get her shoes off) "you gotta hear this song, it's great"...I meant it then and mean it now...maybe it is a little "raw"...but that's only because you have a lot raw talent. I found your song quite moving and very well done...:)
