Makes sense. I saw your knob positions weren't way off with the hardware, within normal tolerances I'd say, but I think the Drive taper is more of a log versus linear for the other two so I was curious.

I was saying avoid the other plugins types like AMP Sims, 1176 and only focus on modelling other distortion/fuzz stomps now that the learning curve is finished
andy-cytomic wrote: Sat Nov 09, 2024 12:30 amI never mentioned doing amp sims in the near future, the 1176 is a compressor. Amp sims are well done the road in terms of things I want to tackle, but having said that, much as with stomps, I think there is still a lot of room for more accurate and detailed tube pre and power amp circuit models.electro wrote: Fri Nov 08, 2024 2:48 pm Having perfected distortion stomp modeling wouldn't it make sense to start pumping out more such as Muff? There are already too many AMP sims in a saturated market so having Cytomic as definitive market leader focusing on distortion stomp modelling seems like the window of opportunity to seize now.
As perspective there was already a saturated market for G-Series bus compressors when I released The Glue around 15 years ago, and already loads of filter plugins when I did The Drop, and tons of tube screamers on the market when I released The Scream. I will always bring something new to the table and try to push the boundaries of detail and accuracy while still keeping the cpu reasonable.

Naw. There are dozens of 1176, LA2A... emulations but none from Cytomic, i want his next gen modelling to kill all the competition.electro wrote: Sat Nov 09, 2024 5:23 pm I was saying avoid the other plugins types like AMP Sims, 1176 and only focus on modelling other distortion/fuzz stomps now that the learning curve is finishedandy-cytomic wrote: Sat Nov 09, 2024 12:30 amI never mentioned doing amp sims in the near future, the 1176 is a compressor. I will be happy with any of the plans Andy has discussed. I'm hoping the pace of development picks up. I'm sure we all are.jtsterays wrote: Sat Nov 09, 2024 5:44 pm Naw. There are dozens of 1176, LA2A... emulations but none from Cytomic, i want his next gen modelling to kill all the competition.
That said, I think the gap between good SSL Bus Compressor plugins (let's say TrackComp) and the hardware is pretty small these days. The Glue's compression is spot on, the overal model can be improved upon, but I'm not expecting to get this huge leap forward in sound quality. I've got an Audioscape G-Comp (SSL Bus Comp) and it's not miles and miles above plugins at all.
Whereas, I'd ague that outside of ToneX, no one's nailed a Big Muff via traditional DSP. A few companies I like have tried (Audiority, Fuse) but neither are right. So if you said, "where might Andy's DSP prowess push sound quality further the most", I'd say fuzz stomp box emulations would be top of my list, particularly the Big Muff.
If Andy were to do the Big Muff, I'd just ask: do something like the Deluxe models with some control over the mids, or something like an Earthquaker Hoof with the Mids shift. Big Muffs are awesome sounding, but the mids can cause them to disappear in the mix so a plugin version with mids to control that, like some of the pedals I mentioned, would be killer.

Bingo! This is where Cytomic is going to shine, and generate a ton of revenue as the market leader in distortion pedal emulation. We don't need him getting sidetracked on unnecessary LA-2A emulations

Sorry I wasn't clear in my sentence. I agreed with everything you said. What I meant was that Andy should do whatever he wants, rather than us telling him what to or not to model. I'd love for the stompboxes to come out first too because low cpu, accurate extreme distortions is still too hard and Andy is the first who has figured it out, but at the same time i also want to see Andy puts an end to all the emulations that have been done to death (1176,LA2A,1073...) like how Relab did with LX480 or Plogue's DX7 so we can move on. I'm not expecting that last 5% to change everything, it's just gonna be really cool to see the analog vs plugin debate come to an end (the grandpas will still disagree ofc, but at least i'll know that it's over).Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Sat Nov 09, 2024 6:34 pmI will be happy with any of the plans Andy has discussed. The drive is A taper, the tone is G taper and the Level is B taper (linear).Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Sat Nov 09, 2024 3:02 pm Makes sense. News: The Scream v1.2.4 is available for download.
The Scream v1.2.4 (13 Nov 2024)
https://cytomic.com/products/scream
• New: optimised both the MD and HD solvers and improved stability of the HD solver with extreme signal levels and settings. CPU savings are around 10% for the MD mode and 20% for the HD mode.
A few more videos are on the way but I wanted everyone to have these new optimised builds first. The 20% saving for the HD mode is pretty huge, and will hopefully allow this mode to be used more for people that want the extra tone.

MacOS Sequoia treats the installer as unknown requiring the user to go to the security settings in system settings and "open anyway" process. this may be a change since sonoma. i don't recall ever having that issue w/previous OS and cytomic plug ins.andy-cytomic wrote: Wed Nov 13, 2024 10:40 am News: The Scream v1.2.4 is available for download.

Hmm - since installing v1.2.4, I'm getting a file created on my Windows desktop called "The Scream Last Loaded Xml.txt" and "The Scream Last Saved Xml.txt".
I'm guessing this is from loading a Reaper project with The Scream in it? (I haven't checked what, exactly, is creating the file).
EDIT - yes, it happens any time I load the Scream in a Reaper project.
Any chance of creating these files in a temp folder somewhere - or anywhere except the desktop?

Same on Mac. I get a text file on the desktop every time I drop scream into a session. I'm also getting errors on install from mac OS that the installer is not properly signed.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Wed Nov 13, 2024 9:16 pmCan confirm.
