GMT does *not* switch when the U.K. goes to summer time. Technically, then, I believe there's another hour to go. This forum's posts are all tagged with actual GMT.

I guess it does say at the bottom of my page, "All times are GMT - 5 Hours", so I suppose that adds up (or subtracts out).

Yes you are right I just read the rules and it says 6PM GMT which is an hour later.

Why don't we start an approach something along these lines:
(based on the idea that music actually should be composed)

: In the key of D sharp (as an example) to include at least chord voicings or arpegios according to a most simple progression, say, inclusively; I - II and V ( or some other chord progression that makes sense ) but must include them somewheres. Without giving too many theoretical explanations to make us scramble and think a bit, for although simple, this should get some of us, me in particular, to take our music theory books out and the dust them off.
And no use of looped samples, just samplers of instruments.

Personally, I don't mind free-for-alls; just finishing anything half-decent is challenge enough for me. But if we must have themes, the idea above is intriguing (similar to Beardedone's Dorian scale.) At least it allows a lot of freedom, but without being a 'free-for-all.' I think you'd need to post an example and simple explanation. (I don't fully understand the terms ('vamp') in Gordon's post.)

I think a theme defined in purely musical terms is needed. A glancing tribute to Hanslick, if you will. As long as we have a clear definition of the musical requirements such as peppy19y described and appropriate - loops is a good idea) then I am sure even the most theory resistant will benefit.

Peppy,

Do you mean we shouldn't use loop libraries, or snippets of songs as in Techbot's example?

Because most samplers are going to use loops of samples unless they are one-shots of percussion hits and such.

By the way, Beardedone will win July if he enters and your idea becomes the guideline
