You have 3748 ePointz!!! Wow. It really does pay to participate in these GB threads!

You could buy everything that Sonic Reality releases for the next 5 years with those ePointz! ;-)

I'm glad I caught this thread.. audiomidi makes mention of the deal, but its only listed as 2 for 1 at the moment.. I was on the fence.

However, seeing its now 5 for 1 I'm definitely in.. will order when I get home. woohoo.

Curious as to others' thoughts on which of the following are more flexible/usable in a DAW (i.e., Logic) environment:

1. RAW packs (i.e., Apple Loops)
2. Construction kits in the ST format

I'm debating between the Trip Hop Collection GB pack in particular vs. the RAW pack from Squids' bonus choices. Don't want this to re-open the "Are Using Loops Creative or Not" debate... everyone has a style that works for them. However, my style tends to favor using instruments that are playable across the keyboard. Would love to hear some of your opinions between the two loop formats as it pertains to workflow.

Thanks,
Toxie

One advantage of the REX loops included in a RAW pack, is that you can import them into Stylus RMX (to do similar Slice Loop stuff that you can do with the ST Slice Loops) plus you could load them into another library (like DrumCore) for quick auditioning of the loops, and then an easy drag and drop into your DAW project.

The SampleTank versions have their advantages, but the major drawbacks are that auditioning is slow, since you have to load each loop one by one, and you cannot directly drag and drop the MIDI into your DAW. You have to search for the appropriate loop in your SampleTank folder and drag it into your DAW from there.

I have all of those RAW packs loaded into DrumCore for VERY QUICK AND EASY reference. I can audition stuff I may want to use at lightning speed and then directly drag and drop it into my project --OR-- load up the loop preset I want to use in SampleTank format and play it in slice mode. That is why I have also added the ReTank titles to my collection so that I can save myself a lot of time and use the one to audition the other.

Sometimes I prefer working with the actual audio loops versus the MIDI versions, so having both is useful.

Hope that helps! :-)

Thanks for the quick reply, zedd! So, by going with the RAW pack, I don't forego any *content* that exists in the Retank version, correct? I wonder if the Loops Browser in Logic will provide the same speedy preview ability you describe with using Drumcore. I agree that's so important!

My pleasure. :-)

Yes, the sample content is the same in both.

I am not familiar with Logic's Loops Browser, but I imagine that if it works well with Apple Loops then you're all set. With the RAW pack you will get REX, Apple and Wave versions of the same loops.

I think my love of epointz has become somewhat of a running joke. It also happens to be true. I am an unabashed esoundz fan, SR fan, and a Squids fan! :D

GBs would not be nearly as much fun without your participation! You deserve all the ePointz you can get!

I'm right there with you on that. And even though he is already included in that group, by default, I want to specifically mention Allen's name, because he has gotta be the best support representative of any company, anywhere.
