'more zoom' shouldn't be obvious. I don't think that anyone would notice the difference between something triggered at higher than 1/96 quarter accuracy.
But instead of arguing with those few who think they can, we provide settings up to 768PPQ. The same way, 192khz is clearly bullshit, but for those few who believe in it, it's supported.
So it shouldn't be obvious, because we advise users not to mess with PPQs. And for the rest, which is a minority, it's explained in the manual.

Most of your issues are conceptual/semantic rather than real...which means it's hard to argue with you, however...soma wrote: -implementation; the major problem is that they are in fact sampler channels instead of true audio clipsThis makes it feel more like a trigger sequencer and less like an arrangement view.

-I don't like how the clips are tied to a certain instrument (Sampler Channels). I would prefer to move a clip to a track that has it's own effects/settings, so that the same sound can be played through different effects depending what track it is on.
-Cannot put clips of different audio samples in the same track. This means no auto cross-fades, no visual over-layering, no ripple fades, and no inserts form other sounds.
-I don't like the way I delete clips accidentally by clicking on them when I think I am going to move them or open a menu.
-I can't remember, can you overlay automation on top of an audio clip? If so, bravo! If not I'd like that too.
- implementation - This is all in your mind, there's not much gol can do about that. The fact is the audio-clip is there in the play-list as a operable/movable/slicable/stretchable object. Seems like an 'audio clip' to me.
- Effects/Tracks - You make several strange arguments, the fact is you can open the channel settings and move the FX track LCD number and there you have it, the audio is now on a new Mixer FX track. Very straight-forward.
- Deleting - This can happen...but Ctrl+Z brings it back. Have you discovered the undo-history in the browser? That can also help.
- I can't remember - Yes you can stack audio/auto clips, there's also a switch to the left to change focus from automation to audio clips etc.
Carb.

Now you have done it...someone is going to claim they need 10,000 PPQ and FL only has 768...how unprofessionaltony tony chopper wrote:But instead of arguing with those few who think they can, we provide settings up to 768PPQ. carbonboy-
I'm not trying to pick a fight. I just want to point out why many users find the audio clips in FL difficult.
I attribute it to a, yes, implemtaion philosophy.

Just to reiterate carbonboy's comments...
ok, I agree but...soma wrote:Apology in advance for being so terse:birrbits wrote:This is pretty vague hoffy, what is awful? the sound, the implementation, loop support?hoffy wrote:Things missing for me:
5) Audio clips in FL are fkucing AWEFUL.
Are you just here to bash the product, or are you actually looking for improvments?

um, you can, using fl's editor or your personal favsoma wrote:-I'd like to be able to see/edit the .wav that is streamed form disk.
umm you can, since you can easily assign the output of any instrument to any effects channel or even to the same channel (group)soma wrote:-I don't like how the clips are tied to a certain instrument (Sampler Channels). umm yes, you can, only thing i'm not sure about is the inserts.soma wrote:-Cannot put clips of different audio samples in the same track. This means no auto cross-fades, no visual over-layering, no ripple fades, and no inserts form other sounds.
dont think i've experienced that.soma wrote:-I don't like the way I delete clips accidentally by clicking on them when I think I am going to move them or open a menu.

well, using fl's editor (or your personal fav) does not answer the question at all. face it - fl doesn't do it...birrbits wrote:Just to reiterate carbonboy's comments...

and, umm, you can't have one audio track go to different FX - you specify ONE fixed destination in the channel window - thus no dynamic change of FX destination depending on track placement of audiotrack...

Wrong. You can automate the FX destination during the song.fabi the underachiever wrote:well, using fl's editor (or your personal fav) does not answer the question at all. face it - fl doesn't do it...

I guess that's not the best way either, but it works. Personally, I have never needed that feature.

Using audio clips is not as well implemented as I would like and recording audio is awkward at best. There has to be an easier way to record audio.

so can you tell me how to have two FX destinations simultaneously?arke wrote:Wrong. You can automate the FX destination during the song.fabi the underachiever wrote:well, using fl's editor (or your personal fav) does not answer the question at all. face it - fl doesn't do it...

I thought about including FX slot automation in my post, but it really is only a workaround, and not even a fully functional one.
i.e. it is not possible in FL, and the things that are possible, are an absolute PITA.
(i use FL, btw, but because they (imobla) suck, i have never bothered editing audio in FL save for a few very minor things.)
plus - it having trouble with big filesize of audiotracks makes it unuseable most of the time, for me...

But you can slice out the bit (or the whole wave) you want sent to another channel, "make unique" and route it to the other channel.fabi the underachiever wrote:and, umm, you can't have one audio track go to different FX - you specify ONE fixed destination in the channel window - thus no dynamic change of FX destination depending on track placement of audiotrack...

In what host(s) can any channel be routed to two buses simultaneously. You'd need to duplicate the audio clip on two audio tracks routed to two different busses. I can't see how this is different than making unique and routing to two different busses.fabi the underachiever wrote: so can you tell me how to have two FX destinations simultaneously?

which is still an absolute pain in the ass... workarounds are possible. however, lately it seems that FL relies heavily on workarounds all over - and that is plain annoying.

i was refering to soma's request. ask him, in which hosts it is possible - all i am saying is that it is NOT possible in FL.peejunk wrote:In what host(s) can any channel be routed to two buses simultaneously. Tracktion, XT, Buzz... Anyway can be done with with a send in FL too.
The thing for me is the way you see it on the screen. There should be something significant (such as where the clip is on the screen) that shows what output path it has.
It's just a matter of taste. I prefer to move stuff to a location instead of change a path number type of working. I think it gives a much better representation of signal path.

gee what a positive attitude, fabi the underachiever wrote:which is still an absolute pain in the ass... workarounds are possible. however, lately it seems that FL relies heavily on workarounds all over - and that is plain annoying.
how often do you need to send audio to a different set of effects midway through a song?
If it were me, I wouldnt even consider this approach (automating destination), I would simply add the effects to the track that will (eventually) use them, set them to dry and automate the wet/dry.
