I find it very odd and rare to see someone bad-mouthing SampleTank but praising and even defending Hypersonic. It makes me wonder. But, forums allow people to be anonymous. So be it. Meanwhile, whoever you are, I think you are intending to disregard our forum rules and seem to want to cause damage to companies we work with. As said many times, this isn't appreciated here.
Listen Squids, I respect you and your willingness to help others as you have even done for me, but take it easy. In my post, I said sometimes I prefer it over ST. Ive praised ST before as well and continue to use 2.0. Ive just come to be unfond of their development of the software. Its like a U-Turn was taken. But, I like the sounds in HS similarly to the ones in ST. In HS, the key range feature has been there since forever, low CPU, arpeggiator, good fx and more. I didnt even bring up HS here. You chose to search my posts. I just dont honestly see ST updating to 2.5 within a year and asked what the policy in selling would be. I have Philharmonik and Sonik Synth but I look at ST like its supposed to be the leader of the pack. Anyway, this is a country (US) where we speak what we want. Ive publicly bashed president BUSH. Im not going to hold my breath for IK. Its my opinion. Im not driving away sales. If the software is good, customers will come, no matter what jack-the-pipe says.

Okay fair enough pipe. Your post did make me laugh. Which is, by the way, above all something we should remind ourselves to do and not take things too seriously around here.

My guess is that you'll probably like ST when it is fully capable of reading and working like Philharmonik. That's a future update that maybe isn't that far off at this point. But, it kind of leap frogged and at least ST2.1 is a free update. Some of the things mentioned are in fact bugs that I hear are already fixed and will be posted pretty soon. Woops. It can happen with software that supports many different ever-changing platforms.

Anyway, each person has their own style of expressing themselves and of course is entitled to their own opinion. I just want people to keep the perspective that SR works with IK intimately and while IK doesn't have a forum, SR DOES and if it is something that can be managed we've been able to really provide a lot of cool info for ST users. So, if we keep things constructive then at least voices will be heard rather than it becoming bantering chatter noise in a sea of hostility. Woah, got all poetic n' shit! ;) :D

Okay, you and Beatsmith are alright with me. I know where you're coming from and can see your side. I only hope you guys can see mine, especially with regard to how we have to keep our company forum from getting out of hand with regard to other companies. That's all. I catch a lot of flack for this forum you know and I defend it all the time. I try to tell you guys this but it is tiring. I really hope we can keep it around because it has been a lot of fun and it has been successful for us and useful for others.

Peace.

In reading all this, I think we should petition IK to organize a forum of their own that can be devoted to support and bug issues, mainly.

This forum can then be devoted to feature and new product requests, sound sample issues, editing (and preset problems in products like Philhamonik where users are limited as to what they can fix on their own through tweaks). :)

..and btw, I am enjoying the 2.1 update and prefer it over 2.0xx. It's not perfect but thats to be expected..

the engine for ST2.1 is out, but the new sounds not yet. as I understand, they're scheduled for this month, though.

I would sign that petition! :D (twice!)

All you have to do is organize it - then make a post about it in the Instruments forum (I don't think it would be appropriate to make a thread about it here). I think it it's a fantastic idea - even just the THREAD about the petition would draw off some of the heat that's been going on in this SR forum.

Not a complaint(yet) but a question. Is the range control meant to be global? I was editing an instrument I created from a sample I imported, and set the key range as I needed it to be. Switching to another instrument, I got the same range, which was not how that one was supposed to be. Has this happened to anyone else, and has anyone read an official description of the function in IK literature indicating that setting the range in one instrument it stays the same when you load another?

It's hard for me to understand that there are so many bugs in this release that has been annouced so many month ago ?
But i'm sure there will be updates to fix them.
But I'm not sure all will be fixed :it's very sad that we can't use 2.0 combis : the time passed to make them is lost !
I don't understand at all that the muti-effect presets made with 2.0 don't work. There seem to be no changes to the effects section.
Hope this can be fixed too.
2.1 new features are nice, so it's really sad that in the other hand we loose things that have taken time to create (combis and effects presets).

You must understand that : I was happy to have the 2.1, and the first thing I've done was to load one of my favourite combi : and then, I was very desapointed.

Hope that the future of Sampletank will make me smile again.

I think the real 2.1 will be out soon, we have just done some beta-testing for IK Multimedia. If 2.1 turns OK, maybe I will upgrade from ST2 L to XL.

Post

Expect 2.5 next and a Dongle to go with it.

I've seen this behaviour (I think) but assumed that it was intended. From what I can tell, the range controls are per channel (or layer or whatever you call it). So if you set up some keyboard splits (one sound for left hand another for right) you can swap one sound around with out needing to reset the key range controls again. This makes sense to me.

Or maybe I misunderstood your post...

No, that was it, and does make semse in that context, that the range parameter is for the combi aspect of using Sampletank. I wish I were able to control key range per zone as well as at the instrument level, and be able to save that in the indvidual instrument preset, and I had hoped that this was it. Not having that level of control limits you in building your own instruments.

You can petition all you want but it is a waste. I've talked about it many times with the CEO of IK. There are so many people that you need a staff that can manage it. I know of several other larger company forums that can't manage their own forum and it is like Lord of the Flies over there. Honestly, I can barely manage our own little SR forum because no one else in my company can deal with this like I can (or they don't want to touch it with a ten foot pole). It's not easy. It takes a lot of time and energy and you really have to be on your toes because people really blatantly disrespect your forum rules and try to test everything! Also, the anonymous nature of it can allow competitors to come in and trash your company or products, or for people who are just cruel, bored or immature to give you a hard time.

The other thing is, and I try to tell you guys this but not enough people really listen, is that if you really did want that to exist then we do a LOUSY job here of selling that! Doh! You think that IK sees how hard I have to work around here and says "this looks like a GREAT idea, let's make our lives CRAZY and do our own forum!".

I agree it would be nice if they had a couple of Squids who could handle it. As it is, I have been looking for an extra Squid or two and haven't found anyone yet. I still have some people who have applied to get back to (yes, I know... maybe those people are reading this and I sure hope you ARE the next Squids because I am getting tired). On the forum here, Kim is a good Squid from down under. Thanks to Kim for that help! But, you need an army of Squids to be able to handle a larger company forum like that.

It is not easy running a GOOD company forum. So, it is better not to have one then to have a bad one I think. I don't want to name a few that I think are bad but you can guess yourself. Bad at least for the company and legit user-base.
