Sold! Thank you kind sir. I think an evangelical minister and a politician have told me to buy this...shamann wrote:Simple enough. Here's a looped snippet of speech I had kicking around (a clip from a Ronald Reagan speech from the 80s). I've run it through discord2 and just fiddled about with parameters as it looped.blurk wrote:I'd just be interested in hearing what it does to sinple spoken word stuff, with varying degrees of pitch shifting and possibly delay.

regarding going back to radial knob stirring rather than linear, we had to do it that way in order to allow people finer control over the knobs (which is necessary when we removed the buggy text edit feature.)
With radial control, you can grab the knob, then move your mouse pointer out as far as you need to to increase the radius of the circle, and thus your level of control. With linear knob movement, you only get one level of control, and it wasn't fine enough.
Besides, no matter which I choose for any particular project, I'll get exactly the same amount of people complaining about the choice. I have to pick one or the other, and in this case, radial made more sense.
(Note that the better hosts override whatever I choose, so Cubase/Nuendo users will never know which I picked for any particular plugin if they have the override on.)

Christ, I'm hating Microsoft this week.
Some people are having trouble getting the Windows Installer update, because their music computers are (wisely) not on the Interwebs, and thus they can't run the validation. I've put the file up on my Analog Industries site to obviate this problem.
So, if you need the Windows Installer update in order to run the Visual C++ Runtime library installer (as detailed in the first post on page 9 of this thread) but the computer you need to do this on isn't on the web, you can grab it here:
http://www.analogindustries.com/samples ... v2-x86.zip
Did I mention I'm hating Microsoft right now?

Your products that I run on my Mac are giving me absolutely no grief and double-plus much joy.Crandall1 wrote:Christ, I'm hating Microsoft this week.
Just curious, in what ratio do you sell Win vs Mac products? If you're willing to part with a ballpark figure?
(And in what ratio do you have support issues?)

I go in to this in some detail in my reply in the usual "Why doesn't Audio Damage have demos" thread, but here's the actual figures. As of about 10 minutes ago, our overall ratio of OSX users to Windows users is 69:31. This has picked up a bit since we released Universal Binaries of most of our products; for a while there, we were one of the only companies to have UB AudioUnits, and this helped sales quite a bit, and tilted the ratio somewhat. Before BigSeq (our first UB product) came out, the ratio was approx: 63:37.VicDiesel wrote:Just curious, in what ratio do you sell Win vs Mac products? Support issues are far more common on Windows machines. The OSX environment is homogenous, and there are very few hosts. The Windows environment is a complete disaster zone, and there are dozens of hosts, quite a few of which are disaster zones themselves. I have 27 hosts installed on my Windows development machine, which is just f**king ridiculous. Many times, a Windows user is in a situation where something Just Doesn't Work, and we can't figure it out. (Witness this latest go-round with Discord 2. It was actually an educated guess that figured out the problem, a sort of "well, it isn't this, and it isn't this, and it isn't this, thus it has to be this" kind of thing.)
Also, many Windows users, for whatever reason, don't keep their machines current, or don't download all the packages that Microsoft offers. This is the DIRECT cause of the problems with Discord 2 detailed in this thread. Our development machines are all updated continuously, and have every package Microsoft has installed, but a fair number of Windows users are still rocking SP1. (Which is, if you'll pardon me for saying so, not a good idea at all.)
In any case, most all OSX problems are solved by running a "Repair Permissions" operation, or a result of the customer not reading the required systems bit before making their purchase. We're not kidding when we say 10.3.9 or greater, but I guess a lot of people don't believe that, or skim over it.
But, when all's said and done, our support load is quite small, except when something like this happens. Once a product has been out for a month or two, its support dwindles to almost nothing, especially after we've updated it a couple times (which, as any AD customer knows, usually happens in the first couple weeks of a product's release.) We sell a couple dozen plugs every day, and I probably spend an hour or two answering emails per day, except on product release days, when I work 22-hour days for a week.

Thanks for the honest and enlightening answer, both here and in the other thread. I was afraid you'd consider this question "company confidential". And I'm glad Mac sales don't reflect the "5 percent marketshare" that Macs seem to have overall. It sounds like Mac development should be pretty profitable.Crandall1 wrote:As of about 10 minutes ago, our overall ratio of OSX users to Windows users is 69:31.
(Still, I'm a bit jealous of certain Windows-only plugs; I think I'll get a Mac Mini, run Windows on it, and use Wormhole or one of those programs to hang it from my Mac.)
Victor.

Crandall1, I'm glad, I have found this thread about Discord2,
because I didn't even get an answer by your support department, that there
was a problem with plugs not showing up.
Is your company on vacation? I'm asking because I got an answer to my questions
within a few hours the last time.

Okay, this problem with the C++ library dependency has been fixed. The installer has been updated. So, if you're still having problems with Discord 2 not instantiating after you install it, go back to your account in the Audio Damage store and re-download the installer and reinstall, and you should be good to go.
This new installer should solve 99.9% of the problems that Windows users have been experiencing with this plugin.

Hi Chris,
I am considering buying Discord 2. But I have a few questions, I hope you (or someone else) can answer them.
First question; I'm in Windows XP home edition, only SP1 is installed, not SP2. Do I need SP2 for Discord 2? If possible I would like to avoid installing SP2, because it messed up my tweaked PC.
Second question; is Discord 2 a good pitchshifter, for drums and for vocals and for speech? If I will use it on single (monophonic) tracks, will it pitch shift without 'stutters' or other artifacts?
