When aliens tune in all the shit that's been broadcast over the years and save it to some superior storage media, what are they gonna pay with? I've heard lots of Earth music all around the verse and I doubt the froods landed their ships in front of Best Buy to get it...

I'm not sure it's that easy, because that basically today has gotten us to a state where you're not allowed to publically share a copyright holders work with others freely. Which basically means that you're not allowed to whistle a hit tune when walking down the street. Now, no-one would be prosecuted for doing that (not today atleast) even if it is illegal. But it is afaik.Amberience wrote:It should be down to the artist to decide, not the fans.

Yes music should be free. However, the time someone/a group take to make music shouldn't be free. Hope that doesn't make sense

When do you listen to music? In a club? At home? In the car? Mostly, music is - as any other product - used for a purpose.
Music makes you...dance...entertained...thinking...enjoying - and it ALWAYS went through to a long develope process (talking about "good" music) to achive its goal - as do any other products.
So in a way, you music creators out there who do music just for fun - in the end you PRODUCE (=product) something that carries your ideas and goals, what ever they may be - there are thoughts and ideas in it - this is time - time has to be paid - and every minute of it for its creative and unique individual ideas.
Just my 2c.

OFF TOPIC, has nothing to do with selling music, rather than creativity:
If you press one key on the master keyboard of your new VSTi-Toy and this amazing sound turns out where everyone goes WHOAAHHO - creativity its jugded by the viewer, not by the creator!

Nope, the other one was off topic, that was for freeshamann wrote:Ack, that's 4c. from you now.
And barking dogs do not bite. I like to discuss things, this is my point of view and if someone has a different one i'd like to hear it. Don't question me, question yourself what you really want to know. You know, that boy in Mary Poppins caused a riot over a mere tuppence. You best be careful.
There is NO right or wrong - we are all individuals with very own morals and views of the world - there is no answer to any question, just opinions and every one has to pick that one that suits him. Like it or not - we all live in our own created safebubbles, closed our minds to things we don't want to hear, don't like, don't want to understand.
If i look into religion or what's going on in the world - i do not understand, nor could i tell you if you should pay money for anything in this world like music. I do know nothing, we all just believe we do by printing shiny books and create formulars which seem to work for the moment but won't in long term, evolution never stops in the universe and there was never a start and there will be never an end. Ask older people or yourself how you've changed since childhood. The true answer to anything lies in each living beeing - in you only.

The sad thing is that out of the 117 people who voted "No" on the poll, a large percentage of them pirate music. It sucks that you want people to pay for your music but you don't wanna pay for other people's music.

I like to be able to whistle / sing whatever I want to whistle / sing. Or tell someone how a new tune I like goes. I pirate about 10% of my music collection. The rest I buy. I know I should buy 100% ... but hey, I've got a better rating than most people around here.ghost863boy wrote:The sad thing is that out of the 117 people who voted "No" on the poll, a large percentage of them pirate music. Very few musicians get paid due to their private monopoly of their works. Most that make money from their music at all make most of the money from performing their works. Now, I'm not saying that no musicians makes money directly from their recordings, but very very few do, especially in contrast to how many that makes money from performing their own (or others) works.HOUDINIwithFL wrote:how would musicians get money if music were free
Since all the costs for promotion, studio time and other investments is deductible from the artists royalties for the record companies, the artist usually ends up making little or no money at all while the record companies cash in. But it's not just that, almost no artists sell a lot of cd's. Only a limited/chosen few does.
