Wow! Thanks PsyPsy-T wrote:and a big honorable mention to folderol, whose track i liked the most this month, but found to be the farthest from the theme as well.
I know it was probably the slowest fast tune on here but I simply had to put something up or face a crisis of confidence, having done nothing on the competitions for so long
I'll be having a poke around at this from time to time, and try and develop it some.
It wasn't me! (well, actually, it probably was) - apparently no longer an 'elderly', now a 'senior'! Is that promotion?

OK
Completely off topic, but.....
I was at "The Worlds Largest Music Festival" yesterday
There was a guy with a display that offered free, unlimmited web space, unrestricted band width, free domain, ect, ect.
It's at www.zude.com.
I was at the web site. It's got a couple glitches, but I just thought I'd pass on the info.

Cheers, reviewers.

Yeah, that's a fair call, I think. Nice enough stuff but, for me, no real electricity down the spine. Wouldn't say it's the time limit though - a lot of the entries could have trimmed 30 secs or so without losing much substance, I reckon. (Especially mine and Pharaoh's.)oddbod wrote:I can't say I've been particularly enamoured with any of this month's entries.
Feels like everyone (myself included) struggled with this theme - mainly with composition but some even on the basic premise of the theme.
..or maybe it's down to the 1 minute limit.

But thanks anyway!
Yeah, me too! I sacrificed my chops to the sequencer. Really I never practiced enough anyway. At least the sequencer lets me create the music one way or the other.keyman_sam wrote:me109 - wish I could play the piano like that.

So is it true what they're saying about Kanye (or is Summerfest somehow bigger than Bonnaroo now)? Say it ain't so...Scoops wrote:I was at "The Worlds Largest Music Festival" yesterday...

Dunno about anyone else, but I find I get best results by using the sequencer as a sort of mini-recorder and just playing single-handed fairly short phrases, then stitch them together. Once you've got a sensible melody line you can just pad out the rest as appropriate. This lets me 'play' stuff I would never have a hope in hell of getting anywhere near otherwise!keyman_sam wrote:oh wow, if you can program notes like that, thats even more impressive than playing.me109 wrote:keyman_samYeah, me too! P.S.
That's method 'A'
Method 'B' is quite different and top-secret

Yeah, it depends on the piece. A lot of the time I play it all the way through and then tweak it till I fall asleep and the next morning, there it is. Or else I use the short phrases method, or the old standby, set the tempo to about half of what it would be if I had practiced as a kid, and play it like a dirge. I'll even step-sequence something if it's incredibly fast and has to be just right.
And my newest method, using multiple layers on Sonar in a loop, play it 5 or 6 times, then use the muting tool to erase the sections I don't like. Then I tweak it till I fall asleep...

A couple years ago the Summerfest staff has Guiness book of records come in, and they declared it the largest music festival. It's been in advertising since.
Saw a person that sounded like it could have been Oddbod.
Maybe his double.

BTW thanks everyone who voted for me. I don't really mind someone not voting me as much as someone not listening to my song before voting.

Now to post the verdict in that other place...

A party of very hungry Chinese folks wreaking havoc with their chopsticks?
donkeyt: fast
Rock solid, I mean solid rock.
farlukar: shift
Is that an old analog modem on fire?
nikp2000 train song
So much wahwahing without a sense of purpose.. what are they drinking?
Folderol Not So Fast
Luv your rich strings and general phatness, but this really Aint So Fast..
m luhtala: IfIAddSomeSpeed
What would I say .. I would say ... add some more lyrics too
Patrick9: MoroccoBound
Sure sounds like a mad camel fighting with a bunch of Dervish dancers!
streifentier: fade out
Really like the melancholy feel of this, a deep Leonard Cohen-like voice would've fit it better
1-2-many: frantic romantic dont wanna be
Kraftwerkish, vocal is too shy but runs along nicely
Barnadine: Treadmill
Sounds like a breathless hamster with portable iron lungs
beanpole: Lets Go Fast
It's got energy and the chorus is catchy in its simplicity ... I like it
ChrisWalton: almighurt
Nice jazz band on Ecstasy, i could wish for more development
Cyrosis: Poniard
Too mechanic, but a cool composition
DeepEddieZilker: Adrenochrome
Too dark and muddy for my tastes.
DrAX: Super Toilet Theme
Perfect theme for one of those crazy Cartoon Network shows
echovoodoo: roadrunner
Hmm, annoying yet fun
Funxi: Rapid Transit Chili
So many bells in here.. I'm not sure what they're trying to say
gag3: giantSteps
Neat modulations at breakneck speed, feels like Queen and Madness combo session
Ixox: IWokeUpTooLate
Whoa, that flutist had too much coffee (I can relate to that
and the brass band can hardly keep up. Great stuff
jacksolium: intestinal chorizo and menstrual ketchup
Evil space dictator urging his monsters into battle? Scary
Jerru: College Teenage Confidential
Lovely smoking riffs, lyrics don't make much sense to me but who cares, gimme more
keyman sam: speedTrack
A bunch of pixies spring cleaning? Definitely a cartoon soundtrack.
LagunaRising: Germination
Sounds like crazy mushrooms popping out after heavy rain, and the band tasting some of them. Some of the modulations don't fit
me109: fast
Interesting teenage blues ballad, if Beach Boys were into jazz it'd sound like this (only a lot slower)
Mellotronaut: Ancient Chairs
Too confusing for me .. what's going on in here? Reminds me of a Youtube video with crazy killer rabbits..
Nav: Deathwish
Hmm, not to my taste .. sorry
offthewall: APassingJig
Nice futuristich echo of Erin's green isle, like Riverdance under water
Pharaoh: abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz

politecompany: runningoutfast
Needs something more, filter sweeps lose my attention quickly
Shrikant: Whistling Meadows
What planet do these meadows grow on? I bet it's full of deadly robots
Spirulence: A Midsummer Nights Epically Fast Escapade
Got my vote for the phat intro synth, the fast parts had a cheesy Commodore feel that somehow spoiled it but still, well put together
ZombieQueen: Catch That Flea
Drunken Pipa master returns, this time scratching
Max: SpeedLimit
Liked the Pulp Fictionish guitar riffs, otherwise too much anarchy in here
oddbod: mrvelocipede
Wow that was catchy and swing-a-plenty as heck. Definitely a keeper
Psy-T: So Slow
Prodigyish, would've liked it better without the overprocessed voice
t00nz: whathappensat480bpm
I dunno, what?
vicdiesel:
Is that a bird caught in the laundry dryer?
davebv: speedkvr
That broke the light barrier, and probably some of the driver's bones too..
jwatte: Engage
Too heavy on bass and that annoying synth sound .. can't relate to it much
