That sounds like it's about the situation here. I get the sinking feeling I spoke WAY too soon in this thread.!buscemi wrote:@SadPuppyBlues: From what I recall 1.0+ versions have always been this way and the earlier dot releases pre 1.0 were freeware. I could be wrong, though.

Thing is the OP is not making any such comparison - he's simply saying that for him Reaper's got to the point where he's been happy to retire Cubase and actually feels good about it. That's all - people don't seem to be getting that. On a feature for feature basis maybe they don't compare but not everyone uses every feature anyway - they focus on what subset of features and workflow works best for them.Dewaine wrote:I realize I am a lone voice here, but I find it amazing that anyone would even compare Cubase 4 to Reaper. Reaper is a good program, but it is simply not a mature app yet. I hope it will be, but not yet. Cubase 4 is a complete, mature app (as is Sonar, Logic....etc). I believe Reaper has an excellent price point for those starting out, or with limited funds. But the apps themselves are in two different leagues.
And yes, I do own a Reaper license.

pc is shit and Cubase sounds 20-40% better than Reaper
and some of my professional producer mates say it's that 20-40% you pay extra for

Having wanted to try reaper out for a couple months, this thread prompted me to do it. I must say coming from Nuendo (5 years), it was a bit of a curve to get comfortable with. One thing I'm am ecstatic about is the cpu usage in reaper, I was able to push it past Nuendo with the lowest buffer settings, where as in Nuendo the same plugs/vsts, I would need my buffers maxed out to play... Makes me feel like nuendo is just so bloated and hogs resources. Thats one thing thats always frustrated me.
Not sure if I'll make a complete switch over yet but I'm happy with it so far. After spending the day with Reaper, it seems pretty straight forward and easy to get things going and recording. Another bonus, no crashes (yet) , no dongles , loads all my vst's perfectly, loading and closing the program is 10 times faster...
The one thing that might hold me back is the video support. No quicktime, but I read .avi's work, something I need to investigate further... anyone with video experience with reaper care to speak up .. please do!

...So now we're comparing the sound of the different daws...
I would really like to see some kind of proff, and maybe some kind theoretical basis for such a demand....
I'm a cubase guy, and I'm staying that way, but that statement is just

I have resisted Cubase, but I'm running it. Love Cubase.
I could teach it. In fact, I've had personal instruction for 10 years.
Listened to training DVD-ROM for even more years.
Yes, it is intense.
I recommend Reaper for you, Leave Cubase 4 for Serious guys.

Sunbathing in Copenhagen sounds like a pretty chilly affair ......
I guess this would just add to the "perkiness" of the whole situation
