chk071 wrote:Well. Judging based on trends here, and on other sites. Artist endorsements from here: http://equipboard.com/ or on other sites, or the artists Facebook, or whatever pages. Articles im magazines. I think you can quickly figure out what is popular, and mostly recommended, and what not, when you browse several sites, read magazines, and see what artists are using, or recommending. If that's not enough for you, or anyone, then i don't know what is. Plugin developers will hardly reveal sales figures, if they don't feel, or have to.
I just want to make sure I understand this. If an artist doesn't endorse a synth or it's not listed on some site or whatever, that synth is underestimated?

Okay, question. Isn't it possible that the synth...

1) Can be fairly new.

2) Is made by a small company without a lot of advertising dollars

But here's the most important one.

3) Isn't all that good.

Granted, # 3 is entirely subjective. But then so is this whole thread.

Point is, just because a synth isn't talked about doesn't mean it deserves to be talked about. Maybe it's been superseded by a newer synth.

See, using your same argument that the great synths are talked about, we can just as well say that the crappy synths are not talked about and thus not underestimated.

It works both ways. You can't argue the one side of the coin without acknowledging the other.

What do I think the most underestimated synths are?

I have no clue. I don't know what people use. I look at my own sales figures for libraries and sometimes I'm totally baffled at what synths are selling and what synths aren't selling. Some of my own data, to me, makes no sense at all.

So all of this, IMO, is just guess work based on not a heck of a lot.

Wooot! Two of our creations in the Top 5 synth plug-ins

(addendum: Zebra has still sold more than these two, so I guess that makes it underestimated!)

Post

Well, i think it is by far your oldest synth, so i guess that is no surprise.

Not that something like Equipboard would be the sole indicator of the popularity of a plugin, as i mentioned.

We're talking about music here (and a little mathematics in places). The whole forum is mostly subjective. I'm not sure why anyone would call out this thread in particular.

I'm going to guess that most people underestimate most synths, and most people underestimate most other people.

I don't think that's what meant, but of course the question is open to interpretation. My take on it would be things that are maybe under the radar a bit for whatever reason. Maybe there isn't that buzz about it, or it's a great workhouse synth that does a great job but doesn't have the wow factor.

In other words, not things like Diva, Sylenth or Massive.

Of course it could mean synths with functions you never realised they have, but I kinda doubt it.

All synths by kx77free are way underrated.

Maybe it's the webpage, minimal instructions or SE stigma, but they sound absolutely fantastic and offer very rich featuresets.

+1

I often wonder why one of his many fine synths have never been used for KVR's One Synth Challenge. Currently 64 bit versions are in Beta and I am thinking the intense exploration of one of these during an OSC would be very helpful to the developer.

Most underestimated from my humble experience:
1.Synthmaster - brutalia, probably the only one capable of hybrid digital/analog sound, can't say enough good things - very difficult and different as behavior for programming until u used to play with it.
2.Firebird - My big love,probably the most undrestmtd1 ever - briliant idea,super easy for programming,limitless sounds.
3.Podolski - so many modulation option and excellent sound - you can do music carrier based on it :)
4.Easy taurus - beautiful little synth for fat bass.
5.Synth1 - Software baby of Virus and Nord underestimated by me in the beginning :)
6.T-Force Alpha - JP like nice synth
7.Tal NoiseMaker - really good filters and unique envelope editor
8.Voyager - Sylenth1 free version :)
9.Angular momentum all free stuff.
10.Tube ohm all free stuff.
And so many more - probably depends what you need and when you find it as free vsti you can say 'That's very good and underestimated synth' :)Cheers :)

Everything you make is worth the work you spend on it, Gunnare !

I really love all your synths ! Even the older ones like Minimogue (~VA and ~Luxus) and Arppe2600VA !

All your five synths are really underestimated here on KVR when we talk about emulations, even if some users say (it is of course a right) that they are not perfect... I always reply that things can't never be perfect. For me they are perfect enough to have a blast, perfect enough for impressive leads as well as for dreamy pads with an extremely close recall of the original hardware devices, especially for the very low price they cost in comparison to the huge work spent on their development and with the very small amount of resources, financial as well as in human team (who are more friends that really professional team), that you have.

I've always been one of your fans, Gunnare!
