Great post! Just what I was looking for. Thank you!bmrzycki wrote:CypherOne wrote:Is Zebra CM any good? Probably more suited to a simpleton like me. I have't tried that either, what are the features, please?![]()
There's a miniature version of the effects section from Z2 on the lower left allowing you to customize your effect chain.
- 2 x Z2 Oscillator with fixed GeoMorph waveforms, fixed OSC FX to Symmetry (for PWM) and Filter (for osc timbre). Each Osc can be set to single/dual/quad mode.
1 x Z2 Noise module with its own low and hig pass filters built in.
1 x Z2 Filter (VCF, not the XMF one) with 19 sub-type modes available
2 x Z2 Envelope with the advanced envelope settings available from the "more Env" tab at the bottom.
3 x Z2 LFO including stepped mode (2 regular LFOs, 1 global LFO)
1 x Z2 ModFX effect module (a Chorus, Phaser, or a Corus/Phaser hybrid effect)
1 x Z2 Delay effect module
1 x Z2 Reverb module
The signal path is hardwired to:
[OSC1]->[OSC2]->[NOISE]->[VCF]->[MIX & FX]
The only hardwired modulation is LFO1 to OSC1 and OSC2 vibrato. Anywhere in the screenshot you see a knob or a box with "...", "ModWhl", "EnvX", "LFOX" is a modulation destination.
Playmodes are poly, legato, retrigger.
All presets created with ZebraCM are loadable into Z2 and you can expand on the original sound with Z2's set of modules and effects.
You should check out the soundsets in the free library and Choose ZebraCM. You can even load these presets into a demo version of Zebra2 to see the signal path and OSC waveforms if you like.
Hope this answered your question.
I had a go on Zebra 2

Podolski is a cut down version of filterscape VA I think, not Zebra, so maybe you'd like to look at that.griels wrote:I'd be interested to hear it... I have to say the stuff I've heard from Zebra 2 so far seems pretty cold, unlike PolyAna. Then again, I'm no tweaker. Strange, because Podolski (a cut down Zebra 1 I think?) had some lovely warm sounding presets. Maybe that's all it was though - the presets?brok landers wrote:i just wanted to say it: it's the clever playing ... the sound can actually be made in mostly every decent substractive synth, and they're a piece of cake for zebra ...djanthonyw wrote:Yes, and yes I also checked out that preset demo. As for synths I think the closest thing that is is going to replace the KLC AE is either the FXpansion Synth Squad or AQ Poly-Ana. Not sure about a replacement for the digital edition yet.

That bass and chords are just insane!

the osc's in podolski are the basic osc's that also found home in zebra, aswell as the filter that is used in podolski ...MitchK1989 wrote:Podolski is a cut down version of filterscape VA I think, not Zebra, so maybe you'd like to look at that.griels wrote:I'd be interested to hear it... Almost, but not quite. Podolski's filter has FilterFM, like the Low2/Band2/High2 modes in FilterscapeVA. The XMFs in Zebra are different sounding.brok landers wrote:the osc's in podolski are the basic osc's that also found home in zebra, aswell as the filter that is used in podolski ...
The oscillator is similar to FilterscapeVA's "virtual analogue" waveforms. These are generated from math formulas whereas Zebra has a more generic approach. They share some of the same principles but I think it isn't possible to perfectly recreate the transitions within Podolski's waveforms in Zebra. These differences may be academic though and possibly less striking than the audible difference between two Minimoogs.
Cheers,
