you should go on a woodworking site and tell everyone how their pursuits and inspirations are crap because Ikea sell more, see what kind of reaction you get...

No hibidy, it's all good. I have an affinity for those who hate Brandon Flowers. If you told me that you hated Axl Rose too though, then I might be in love.hibidy wrote:It's paranoia day here, did I screw up again?debra1rlo wrote:My only quibble with that is brandon may actually suck more. popular has not often been the same thing as hip, for instance if you ask people to name a sax player the most popular would be kenny g, but im not sure hed make the list among the hip people.
and kenny is a great example, he doesnt actually suck as a player if you listen to his work with jeff lorber etc but he made a choice to do sappy crappy music in order to rack up grammys and record sales.
to do hip music people have often sacrificed mass popularity, and thats the sad reality cause if youre gonna do anything hip its gonna go over the heads of a lot of people. i remember the first time i heard don ellis i HATED it and now its one of my favorites.
but the whole thread can be answered in the movie "young man with a horn" where the troubled trumpeter is told, as his own life tryin to be a hip jazz player dealing with an aging lip bears down on him, "you know who buys record albums? 12 year old girls, they buy them so they can learn the words."
i got my lumps in the bud, 5th grade talent show i played herb alperts casino royale on trumpet.i could play all of his songs. trust me it was in tune and i hit all the notes and did his vibrato and all and got nice applause.
then after me went a bunch of guys who lip synced to the stones "satisfaction" while playing air guitar and jumping around the stage. nothing choreographed or in sync, just kids jumping around.
and the crowd went wild.
