+1 It doesn't look attractive in a screenshot, but it's fine in use (and sounds great too!).The GUI fits the synth. I like the GUI too..

I share the same opinion as you do about the GUI. It has a vintage character reminiscent of all the old coin-op cabinets, company logos, flyers and such that it's modeled after and personally, I think that just adds to the "atmosphere".kingtubby wrote:Decent, in-depth review - I have to say though, I like the gui as it is. BTW, Dave, if the Chipsounds users give you the call for more presets, I would love to dig back into it again because I really enjoyed this assignment. The factory preset submissions barely scratched the surface of all the different sounds ideas I've gotten from tinkering with it

I was thinking about this only a few minutes ago. now that its out there, im sure there are plenty of requests for this or that effect.Xenos wrote: BTW, Dave, if the Chipsounds users give you the call for more presets, I would love to dig back into it again because I really enjoyed this assignment. You can resurrect that preset thread, or people can just ask in here. i dont mind. One thing for sure your presets contribution (roughly 85% of whats there) were really appreciated!
thanks again ... wants more!

I think it's clear what they're after with the "atmosphere", but it's a somewhat, uh, stylistically bit of a half-assed effort. It's not very "retro" nor "modern" nor a seamless amalgamation of the two, but rather takes elements from both and doesn't mix the two very well. That said, I'm just commenting from the screenshots - it's just aesthetics, nothing to do with how well the GUI actually works. Then again, in this particular case said aesthetics have moved it from "instabuy" into the "maybe" folder, as shit a reason as it is to judge a synthXenos wrote:I share the same opinion as you do about the GUI. We all agree that one ui can never have satisfied everyone, by this time i would have guessed someone would have made a skin already. you can completely redo the ui, you can make it looks like a totally different product.krushing wrote:Then again, in this particular case said aesthetics have moved it from "instabuy" into the "maybe" folder, as shit a reason as it is to judge a synth
however you will only have one skin from plogue for the short future, as there are imho much more important sound/parameter tweaks to do.

Yeah - don't get me wrong, I don't think there's anything really wrong here, and it certainly seems useable from an interface designer's point of view. I'm still eager to get my hands on this thing and indeed do a complete re-skin at some point.

to all the people being afraid of the colorful default skin, i made a new one:
http://www.polyfonken.com/ChipSkin/
took me maybe 5-6 hours, wasn't too hard at all. of course the layout is original and i had the original bits to work with, making something completely new and elaborate would take some more, i recon.
that is to say, fear not for your skin for it can be altered.

personally i love the gui, and guys, you got one more day dudes... this thing is killer. there is no other synth that can touch what this can do, in character... get it now, or miss out on a great deal!
i cant wait for more updates, and hopefully more presets

great now that the discount periods over, I decide i want it, i knew that would happen haha. Oh well.
I might wait a couple of months, until after christmas, when ive learnt some more of the stuff in komplete 6 and can justify buying a new alien synth in need of learning.
Maybe there'l have been some nice updates by then too.
