Yeah Mouxbar I remember, the track ... and I've also not forgotten enough about punk to confuse the two! Punk? ... 'Knees ap Muvvah Braan' more like!!

Anyway, cheers for the submission! :tu:

Re synths, I dont remember Adonis being referred to as being simple, if so, good on whoever made the comment ... surely a joke which went over everyones heads! :hihi:

I dont really care whether we go for simple or complex, I think if you look at the history of the comp, there is always a sway towards something different from the one before ... I would say Crystal was complex, but it was a fine comp!

Synth1 is quite a complex beast, so might be good to tackle something a bit more ... errr immediate??

... cheers for the link Nahkronoth ... I'll check it out! :)

... Actually, I checked it out between forgetting to hit submit with this post, and realising I hadn't posted it yet :hihi:

.... Woah!!! :-o ... Thats one great little synth!! ... look forward to coming last in this comp .... would love to do an OSC with 'pink' ...!

Told ya :P

Yep, you certainly did :) .... just working on my half finished track now ... increasing the fm to max on all my melodic tracks, reducing the attack on all percussion, pushing all the channels up to max, sticking a bitcrusher on the master, recording some banjo on it, adding some illegal fx, and adding a subliminal vocal, which played backwards says 'this is sh1te ... vote for Mouxbar!" :hihi:

:D Don't forget to bounce it on a battered tape with low rpm for sheer analog warmth and mojo!

... yeah, and put it in the washing machine on a hot cycle just to make sure! :hihi:

Seriously though, I'm just about there with my track ... and loving it! 19x Synth1 so far, and the cpu was peaking at 26% ... average around 23% .... "damn" I thought ... how am I gonna squeese in the other 68 instruments?? " ...then I realised I'd not turned on the smart disable function! .... so I did just that! ...now peaking at 22%, average around 19% ! ... just gotta cut some cut some release tails, cut out some superfluous notes, and I might just manage to muddle through! :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:

( did I really start that paragraph with the words 'seriously though' ..? :hihi: )

My washing machine is on a record http://www.discogs.com/Various-Quotidia ... ase/755902 although this is a radio edit, the original is around 46 minutes long :)

ha ha ... great stuff mac ... but how can I listen? I cant seem to find a play button anywhere! :(

Sounds like the kind of stuff topplers records might be interested in ... plans are afoot to create a 'Space party' collection ... its a long story, but the aim is to create the ultimate hardcore ambience album ever ... I've created some stuff with Flex-N-Stein, but I'm also trying to find the time to record my central heating via a contact pickup on a radiator! :hihi:

Here's my track http://www.macvibes.com/TEMPORSOUNDS/Wa ... OnighT.mp3
A little explanation about it:
I've been sleeping to a recording of a washing machine for decades now. I originally recorded the machine probably something like 20 years ago, maybe more. Because to me that sound has always been that of a spaceship, in time I decided to add some special effects. Of course, it would be many years before I had any real FX at all, so I just made a copy of the audiocassette, played it slightly out of sync with the original and recorded the result on a third tape deck, then repeated the process, and so on. The tape got played every night (repeatedly), so I had to make a new copy every now and then. I sometimes added some new "effects", but the saturation and tape noise that kept on piling on top of the saturation and noise all the time were special enough an effect already
For the past ten years or so, that recording has been preserved on CDr, so each copy is virtually identical to the previous ones and no more degradation has been added.
Anyway, this is a recording I have a huge affection for, so when I saw the guy was looking for contributions for this compilation, I sent him my washing machine immediately :)

The central heating idea seems VERY interesting (I'm serious!), you must find a way to do it!

Is this kind of conspicuous display of genuine musical talent really in the spirit of OSC? It's like entering the dads race at your kid's sports day and discovering that your up against Usain Bolt.

Makes me wonder who orbik is?

Sounds not too dissimilar to Jake Kaufman (aka Virt), particularly this:

:o That was musical talent, speed composition hmm.. Such awesomeness made in under an hour. And I was doing this short track for a week, haha :|

But maybe you have a point there: Is OSC specifically about sound design and sequencing for the chosen synth, or just the overall result? I mean composition.. e.g. (much of) the beauty of classical music doesn't depend on what instrument you play it with.

From the voters' comments, I'd say say it's up to the single voter. Some go for the technological aspect, others for the compositional (in a technical sense) side, others for production, others for emotional content, others for a balance of all aspects - votes will come in a rather unpredictable way, I guess

Mine is uploaded! I call it "Back To The Groove"

Synths:
10x Synth1

Effects:
1x Smatelectronix Ambience

1x Kjærhus Classic EQ
1x Kjærhus Classic Compressor
2x Kjærhus Classic Delay
2x Kjærhus Classic Reverb

Last time I participated my track was criticized for being too short, so it's way too long this time

Both! It's just that we rarely hear solos in the entries but you just managed to squeezein one in that way too short Casiopea style jazz-funker of yours! Simply awesome stuff :tu:
I usually try to find a balance of making up patches/sound designing and building an actual track with melody, chorus and all. I'd say the latter is more important for me personally as I'm probably better at making a melody than I am at sound design. Judging from my usual amount of votes in the osc's I suck at both!
It's all good though  :hihi:

I don't know if there's an official view on this; beyond the basic rules, I think it's pretty much up for interpretation. Last time I just voted for the ones I liked, whereas others, admirably, attempted to take a more objective view.

If I was in your shoes, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Your track has everything going for it, and in spades - arrangement, sound design (the wah-wah guitar is stunning), production - it's not just good, it's mind bogglingly brilliant!

I'm really curious - there's a fair bit of musical talent, technique and knowledge displayed there, to put it mildly, so where did you learn all of that?

hey Mac .... that washing machine track is cool!

K-Bee ... great stuff! ... cheers for the submission! :tu:

Just about as strange as it gets on KVR but I will credit you with good taste - it's a very musical washing machine.

Kind of reminds me of early Kraftwerk. Sounds really industrial. :D

I'll not mention my love of an empty helium gas cylinder in my local pub as people will really start to think the worst of us.

...but the noise when you hit it is just soooo lovely 8)

Cheers,
Mouxbar
