The settings on the amp did not import (they were all in the 5 o'clock position after import), and when I turned the knobs to where I had them before, it sounded nothing like the older preset. I loaded X-Gear up to make sure there was nothing wrong with the preset, and it sounded fine under X-Gear.... the knobs where how I left them. Opened it again in AT3, and it was altogether different. The stomps and racks imported just fine though, with all the settings I had still intact. Go figure.
Not a big deal, I dialed it in until it was close (and actually better this time), but I didn't think that AmpegSVX would sound different under Amplitube 3. Also, sometimes when I open an older preset it says that I do not have everything the preset is asking for, or something like that. I have EVERY one of them installed. :)

I am digging this though. I absolutely love moving the mics around to find the sweet spot. This really helps me find the right tone. I use to try to do it with eq, but let's face it.... eq cannot sound the same as moving a mic around in front of a speaker. :)

Does this happen with all presets you've imported from previous Amplitube products? Because one of IK's boasts about Amplitube 3 is that both the new AND already existing models have been improved using a new algorithmic simulations (the same used in Amplitube Fender. My GAWD those amps sound nice!) :tu:

So I suppose that these improvements mean that the signal is processed differently, hence your older presets sounding different. I've noticed that with some of my own presets also, but a little tweaking has brought them around nicely. And indeed a bit better if I may say so. Nice job IK!
It does not happen with all presets. The only one that flat out was very different was the AmpegSVX preset I created.

In Reaper, some things seem to demand being in a folder in ...Steinberg\VstPlugins,
even if its just a .dll and a .fxb, or just the opposite, so experiment. I've also had Reaper toss up a requestor hidden behind the main gui on occasion, causing me to ponder Mad Shit! Mad
why nothing responded. I would try modifying the path of the Peaver, and rescan the plugins. Good luck
Thank you for the tip. I think this is the first time I've run into a plugin that wouldn't just open right up in Reaper with no fuss, but it's worth trying (assuming the Revalver demo hasn't already expired on me since I first tried to instantiate it several weeks ago).
OK, screw all that. Screw the amp reverb. Screw the rack reverb. In the cab section choose "hall" turn the level up a bit and use that instead.
That's what I've been doing too, bringing up a little of the hall or room ambience in the cabs. I find I usually prefer that or else 3rd party cab IR's that are captured with some natural room ambience instead of pasting digital reverb onto rhythm guitar tracks. The digital reverbs (usually CSR or my hardware Lexicon) come in handy for those '80s ultra-clean, drenched in chorus/delay/reverb sounds, though (for which I usually just run direct without any amp simulation - I think those sounds were often achieved by running direct back in the day).

One questione for the standalone version....
four tracks but no multithreading support?? :? :?:
It is not incredible?? :(

OK, thanx for that. I'm on Reaper XP Q6600. Takes ten seconds to switch to AT3.

Quick review: AT3 finally has 3 or 4 nice amps in there can do metal and rock sounds I like. But so can a few other plugins that I have/own already. So nothing here that is extraordinaire or incredible so that I have to have it.

There was some buzz about some cool modulations fx here but I didn't find anything that is beyond the typical massware.
Mokafix overdrive and fuzz pedals do more to me and for way less money than AT3's pedals.
There are a few things here and there that are cool and that do sound good but overall nothing that seriously itches my wallet.
All in all not my cup of whatever.

You really believe that their aren't a lot of musicians here that don't predominantly play guitar and/or bass? While I'm sure a large portion of the KVR family are only using synths, I'm pretty sure many are either adding guitar and bass to their music (even through Samples that still need amp processing.) Also don't discount the number of folks creating rock and metal or pop that all are driven by guitar and bass.
Oh ffs; read the post directly above your one. Jeez.

Hmm, interesting. Thanks for the tip. I'll try it for sure. Be kind of a bread and butter reverb I suppose. There's still a place for the rather nice digital reverb though when you want that swimmy thing.

And ......... there must be something about modeling that makes it hard to capture subtle fx. Most (all?) of the verb knobs go from off to way too loud immediately.
Nah. Other amp modeling plugs don't behave this way. It's IK Multimedia that seems to behave that way. Actually it really bugs me. I was hoping they addressed this in v3 but they didn't. The reverb at "2" shouldn't already be over the top. Using the cab ambiance is my work around but I wish they'd revisit the amp reverb settings.

I guess it's just the spring reverb they modelled. I have a Fender Twin Amp and the reverb at 2 is extremely loud. I don't think IK modeled individual reverb tanks on the amps as they all act and sound the same. It also accounts for why the reverb knob appears equally aggressive on the amps.

Seems like a major resource hog. The stand alone mode uses 10-15% and some presets are easily over 20. This is using an AP2496

In Reaper, as a VST it isn't as bad. Kinda odd it show less CPU in Sonar.

I also seem to have found a bug running a display at 1366x768. I can't see the bottom end of the app in stand alone. When I move it, AT3 acts like it wants to crash.

Remember, each host (including standalone) will calculate the CPU usage a little differently. Even Sonar 8.3.1 and 8.5.2 calculate CPU use way differently. So it's probably using just about as much in standalone as it is in Reaper, but I'd imagine they're just presenting those same numbers a bit differently.

Even on my UBER i7 I get poor readings in standalone (with every single plug that doesn't do multi processing, which is basically all of them except the kontakt player)

the task manager will most likely read different, using all the cores.

Today I had some time to play with the demo in the studio. I'm extremely impressed! A huge jump forward in quality since original Amplitude 2. I wasted 4 hours just noodling the guitar going through the first 5 presets and tweaking them beyond recognition.

The amp+cab combination finally feels less static (which always was a problem). I still think something like Nebula is superior when it comes to the cabinet emulation but this is already very well done and can definitely give some highly usable tones.

The leslie is really well done too! Had a blast running some synth sounds through it.

Looking very much forward to play more with this. I just wish I'd have bought the download version (didn't know there was one) as now I have to wait for the damn package to get the serial number.. oh well.

Cheers!

Found a bug today after creating one of my own presets. I was scrolling through the preset selector at the top of the UI (the up/down arrows) and the plug-in got "stuck" on one patch (it was a Vox patch - don't remember the name). Anyway, it was locked into that preset after changing to patches (still the same sound, but with different names at the top of the UI). Simple restarted solved it, but still...

See if you can reproduce it so that others can check
