Synth Bank Prices

I bought $30usd banks, and have not too many regrets.
I just don't want 20 drum sounds, or sfx with them.
How many highhats and ufo sounds does one need really.
A lot of others feel sequences are useless too.
Pads seem to be most wanted.

It does seem that things are getting a little deflationary right now ... I can get styrus ( which I've lusted for but did'nt buck up for $179) with a plethora of great presets.... which is good since it's FM and has a tiny GUI and I'm a kludge sound designer !!! and then just never have a go at programming it ; $50 till the end of this month .

At the same time , two new soundsets from respectable designer with grand sounding demos show up for sylenth1 and zebra ( which I have ) ; ... those would set me back a little over $50 too . Tough choices.

Well, I released my latest soundset for V-Station (http://www.designasound.com) and decided to combine "pay / donate what you want" model with the minimum price set to 12 $ (something similar what IL did with Harmless plugin or Drumaxx).

The soundset contains 256 presets, took me few months (but it's not my job, it's hobby so it's not 8 hours / day ) to complete. Do you think that setting a minimum price is a good idea ?

That's reasonable as hell.I've bought synth banks for 30euro n didn't complain, if I feel their worth it,then it's not a problem..

I wish all synths had a common way to tag and favorite sounds, and audition them in large banks sorted by designer-assigned tags, my own tags, or ones I've flagged as favorite.

You can use external tools to make that :

Here are the two I use most often : NI Kore 2 and Cubase VST3 tagging system.

Then some vstis have search functions embedded in their browser, like Massive or FM8 : You can search all instruments made by John Doe or ..... Lotuzia and you'll get them in a flash, or you can search for categories aso.

With hundreds of instruments, content management is getting more and more crucial nowadays. This is why using such tools is almost getting mandatory

You might want to look into Kore 2. It will import and allow you to flag the presets from most synths.

yea. I'm doing such thing ... manually I usually buy few soundbanks for one vst instrument and then, one day, I scroll through every preset, save those presets I like and then combine them into one, favourite soundbank.

thanks to this, instead of few soundbanks with about ie. 2000 sounds, I still have like 200-300 sounds I like and they fit my genre etc.

But yea, it's time consuming

I think Big tick is trying to address this with "ZEN".

...yup. and it would be a lot easier, if users of a particular synth would join in a group effort to convert and tag synth banks in kore format. i'd volounteer for z3ta+...

...yup. and it would be a lot easier, if users of a particular synth would join in a group effort to convert and tag synth banks in kore format. i'd volounteer for z3ta+...

I've done shed loads of Albino, Blue and Vanguard sounds - but certain synths ie Synplant/Zebra/Omnisphere/Nexus make it next to impossible unless you're prepared to input each and every patch individually - and with a comprehensive template to make it worthwhile making morph variations.

I tried the free KORE Player and got really excited about its sound library system. Looks like exactly what I want! I was about to pull the trigger on that Absynth upgrade and even looked for the software-only full KORE. Then it occurred to me that I have a copy of the Synthetic Drums, and I checked in my account updates list, and sure enough there's an updater that makes these sounds available for KORE.

So, the note for that download said to pay attention to where the sounds are supposed to be located before you run the installer, and that instructions would be provided. They weren't. The installation instructions for Synthetic Drums say...I kid you not...to copy the files to your hard drive.

So, I looked where KORE seemed to find its sounds and there were directories for Absynth 4, Massive, Reaktor, etc, so I created one for Battery 2 and copied the Synthetic Drums there and ran the convert-to-KORE installer. It ran, it gave a progress bar, and it said the installation was successful. I can find the ksd files it created for every kit.

But the sounds are not to be found in KORE.

You should try to point to the new directories, then update the database using the standalone version.
