Cheers Ian, thanks for the synth. :)

Well I'm demoing Reaper full speed atm and my entry (if I get it ready in time), will be done there. It's really a full fledged DAW on par with the other big ones imo, quite intuitive and includes good effects from Stillwell, JS etc. For $60 it must be one of the best value items around and I think I'll go for it just to have a 2nd DAW for inspiration or collaborations. Sure, it crashed constantly with StringZ until I found to tick the right box (buggy plugin compatibility mode) when loading and now it's rock solid.

Yeah V'ger, I have Reaper, and I love it! .... but I'm looking for a challenge! :)

Cheers for the submission Yeager... :)

....about 2 and a half days to go!!!!

It looks like the free version of Tunafish has got exporting, but no save: http://www.brambos.com/download.html

Being 'lightweight,' Tunafish definitely seems to have more overhead available for loading plugs than say, cubase. Tunafish does max out at 10 channels or tracks though.

Now, if Bram Bos were to go back and integrate Tunafish and Tuareg, and add in audio capability, clean up a bug or two... and add a raft of keystroke support... i'd definitely be interested. Bram has written some great software over the years. It will be interesting to see if he re-enters the windows realm. Apparently, he's doing IPhone apps these days. One of his programs from the '90s - Hammerhead drum sequencer - is yet in use today the world over.

I always tell people who are just getting started in computer music, about the Bram Bos offerings. His apps definitely provide a fairly easy entry into the world of computer music.

Anyway, i loved Tunafish; but it drove me batty after awhile. There appears to be this nagging, 'scrolling bug' with Tunafish. Renoise has given me no reason to look back.

It's starting to look to me like Musagi is more self-contained, and maybe the VSTI support is an afterthought. Musagi sure is nifty for what it is, though.

Of this Stringz... i too made a mental note to get back to this thing... it makes some really good sounds...

My entry is up:
Comforting Song (cover) - dwsel

Post

Cheers for the submission Dwsel ... :) .. it had better be good after all you've put us through! :hihi:

mrblitz ... yeah, the 'no save' in tunafish would make life difficult, but maybe I just have to leave my PC switched on for a week :hihi:

That's what I had to do as a kid with my Casio SK1 and SK8, as they lost the samples when you turned them off... so when I got some nice sounds and needed more than one day to finish the track I was working on, I had to make sure the Casios stayed on for days in a row till I was finished... :?

Post

Well, I've had a look at Buzz, and I reckon thats the way to go! :)

Post

Yeah an interesting app that, Xenobioz is using it regularly.

But struggling to finishing the StringZ piece here. I have some short parts I played and now tweaked, but can't build on them or connect them to anything useful, a bit stumped atm frankly..

Could be something with brain halves imbalance due to all the tech work with Reaper and OS\VST reinstall, and the StringZ piece musical only without even BPM or beat to fall back on..

Post

Hmm .. sorry to hear that V'ger ... but does sound familiar! ... a punchy bass, and some simple piano might help punctuate things in the absence of decent percussive sounds. I found that for every 2 instruments I added to my track, I would have to take 1 out when things started to clutter ... it kinda cleared the way forward.

Post

Tattiemannie, Buzz is probably the better choice of the two...

I've been using Renoise, and tracking is the way to go... ;)

It's just blowing my mind. Quick sequencing, sample slicing, automation, ducking (with the signal follower)... it's all right there... and it's rock solid stable on my machine...

serves you all jolly well right, I say!!
The fact that nobody answered this post must mean something, but I wouldn't know what :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:
By the way, I have an old Pentium 4 and had no problem at all with Stringz 2.
I only experienced some odd behavior with Stringz 1 (which I pass through amp sims etc to use it as an electric guitar (not on this OSC, I'm talking about my own music)) till I found that clicking the switch (whose purpose I don't know) under the logo solved the problem.
So, Krakli, at least one of us is not in trouble here

Um yeh that switch was part of the earlier attempt at the tuned 'reverb' that forms part of the basic character of StringZ (2) (and incidentally the main reason that it can tend to sound 'boxy') The Iline Oline (in line / out-of-line) switch patched the reverb unit in one of two different ways internally. in StringZ2 i sorted my life out and worked out a different routing that worked better in nearly all cases so the switch became superfluous.

This thread has proved to me that StringZ2 is a really tricky beast to tame. The randomness is totally by design, actually. the original design idea was to come up with an instrument (bowed string mostly) that sounded as if it was being played with up and down strokes of the bow. So that continuous streams of notes had that random quality to them..

I appreciate that the whole idea of this competition is very much one of a challenge (the clue is in the name :) ) but i must admit I huckled at both choices of Krakli Synths so far.. Gargoyle is almost completely un-musical and nobody sensible would ever attempt to use StringZ2 for a whole mix.. My admiration for your desire to take it on and the quality of the results so far is absolute.
All Ican say to the vewing and listening public at large is that not every Krakli synth has to be strangled to produce sounds that are not all like somebody running their nails down a blackboard, some Krakli synths can sound quite musical :hihi:

Actually, I'm using Gargoyle 2 all over my music, and last night I added Morphiza MK2 to a track that will be on the next BIOnighT album (first time I've used it, but won't certainly be the last), and I love Richman, too :)
