Definitely. I think it's good enough to be a product by itself.Slate wrote:For those of you who have the VCC.. do you think the Brit4k is enough to give a user an idea of the plugin?

A limited demo on the original iLok is a no-go. Part of your job will be convincing the anti-iLok crowd that VCC is worth just sucking up their reservations about dongles and buying VCC + iLok2. I'm guessing original iLok owners would also like to demo VCC, but they won't be afraid of upgrading to iLok 2 since they're already comfortable with dongles. You should concentrate on non-iLok folks, this way even the original iLok people can still demo it, while also opening yourself up to the non-iLok crowd.Slate wrote:I'm really trying to figure out a way to make a non ilok2 demo.. Most people who demo the product end up purchasing it. The issue is how..
I've thought about numerous ideas but none are perfect..
Limited demo on ilok1 (maybe just the Brit 4k desk... 30 second mutes... no grouping)
Question: why turn off oversampling? If you're trying to sell me on the sound of the plugin, disabling the oversampling is a bad idea. Also regarding the 30 second mutes, you'd have to code it to time the mutes so they happened on all tracks with VCC at the same time. Otherwise, I'd say, one desk, oversampling on or off, grouping disabled, with dropouts every 30 seconds (across all instances), would be more than fair.Slate wrote:Limited demo no ilok (just one desk, 30 second mutes, no oversampling or grouping)

gonna discuss this with the team.. more opinions appreciated. I would love it if everyone can experience what this plugin can do without the ilok obstacle, but I also don't want two years of work to bite the dust due to piracy..
I'll be open about my concerns:
- people who don't like dongles.. even if they like the plugin, will the ilok requirement still stop the purchase?
- if we do the non ilok demo (just Brit 4k with mutes), it gets cracked, will this defeat sales of the full plugin/

i don't think so. one of the main selling points as i understand it is having the choice and flexibility of four consoles. a crack would just be a quarter of this so i don't think there would be any impact on sales.Slate wrote: - if we do the non ilok demo (just Brit 4k with mutes), it gets cracked, will this defeat sales of the full plugin/
edit - as far as not liking dongles, i've never been a huge fan of them but a while ago i was so impressed by the (dongle free) poly kb demo that i bought the synth + dongle and haven't looked back

No. After my testings with other guys, they found the most different sounding is the Brit-N (Neve). Because all crying "I neeeed SSL", I would put SSL for the "I must have factor" and Brit-N for the "I cannot hear a difference" guysSlate wrote:For those of you who have the VCC.. do you think the Brit4k is enough to give a user an idea of the plugin?
Disable grouping and disable saving or instead "mutes" is Ok for a non- iLok Demo! I would not play too much with the main parts (the emulations) because people buy it _because_ this main feature

You could put oversampling and two desk, but plugin should TOTALLY LACK automation or parameter recall. They shouldn't even be there and not reported to host. So simple. If i recall correctly i think AirEQ had such demo.Slate wrote:gonna discuss this with the team.. more opinions appreciated. That lead to another thing
With weird initial values (for example) drive set to zero and input set to low, user is forced to tweak it to accommodate and use sound he like. He can demo plugin in session, hear it how it is sounding in all glory but when he save it and reload it and because of lack of parameters (and weird initial values) plugin will be unusable in the way plugin won't save any setting within project since it lack host parameter and it will return to initial settings each time project is loaded.
So even if they crack and remove ilok 1 protection plugin seems pretty worthless unless one want to hand write each settings for each project and then to tweak that upon each project loading by hand - which seems waste of time and really absurd way to work..

Why not try to be a little patient instead and wait a year? iLok 2 is definitely going to be the standard, not the old iLok 1 (which most people have filled up with demos by now). You have a great product that doesn't really "age".Slate wrote:gonna discuss this with the team.. more opinions appreciated. You chose iLok 2 for it's security. It currently has the downside of a small user base at the moment but I'm pretty certain that will change.
Don't even try to please everybody on these or any other forums on the internet. It's impossible.
Patience, on both the potential users part and your part, is what is needed.
Cheers!

*sigh*Liero wrote: Seriously, W-T-F? You want to pay more for software for the sole reason that (you think) this will somehow make less people on the internet act like morons? Wow, you are really making the world a better place. Think of the millions of people in compyfox's fantasy world who simply could not bring themselves to post crap into youtube for the sole reason that they could not afford to buy VCC.
You, sir, seem to misunderstand the point.
Yes, I'd pay more for this plugin if it's making my equipment "special" an no 14 year old wanna-be can come along "hay, I got a haxxored version, I can make dem phat beatz, phatter tham <insert hip-hop producer name here>, lololol, yo!". This is not a crazy "fantasy world" of mine, this is a sad reality and can be ported to every music genre.
I'm actually surprised that Steven didn't raise the price after all the included FR's. It is a massively enhanced version since the release of the initial idea (just the channel and mix bus, no gang mode, no calibration, no oversampling, etc, etc, etc). This alone makes it more worth than what you actually pay for!
I can only emphasize it again: you get access to a similar sound as 30000+ USD exensive 16 channel mixing consoles (each) of four known branches. On top of that, unlimited usage (depending on CPU), automation, total recall, simplified editing/configuration, etc. Try to recreate that with just one hardware desk - especially with those that offer no automation.
I'm not suprised that people go haywire over everything. Steinberg's NEVE PORTICO is too expensive for some, for others it's just the right price. Personally I say it the other way around for VCC.
Again: my personal opinion!
You don't have to agree with me on this, but you don't have to take this out on me either. And I've seen more silly "excuses" or argumentations than this one.Liero wrote: I think you're just feeling covetous and you're trying to mask it up with the silliest excuses I've ever encountered.
Not at all. Those that have the needed funds and want to go for it, will get this set regardless. I just don't want the wanna-be engineers, posers, showoffs and hack users to have a simple access to VCC just to claim they're the best engineers on planet earth.Liero wrote: You have something you think is great and you don't want other people to have it, period.
YMMV.
Now can we please go back on topic again?!
@Steven:
Since my posts seem to be overlooked, I guess I have to write you and Fabrice directly via mail.

Several developers here on KvR have in the past, clearly shown, by sharing their sales numbers, that having their software cracked DRAMATICALLY reduces sales. Not just a little but by a huge margin.maxxxter wrote:Why do you think your work becomes suddenly devalued and "bites the dust" if it's being cracked? That being said, there are also companies that seem to do just fine without any restrictive copyright protection schemes.
Cheers!
