@V'ger
Haha, i love Ernie's face there. In Spain that yellow character is called Blas, and the brown other Epi. I don't know why they changed the names. :shrug:
But still they are charismatic as hell, haha.

Have a good day and sorry the Off-topic :)[/quote]

In Brazil they're called Enio & Beto

DAW is Reaper

Take a look on my first DubStep attemp, what do you think? I'm asking to you mostly because you seems that you listen to much Dubstep, you looks young.
(I will delete it tomorrow or so)

It is just a quick demo i made, i need to add more sounds and channels, and also mastering of course. But there goes the basis idea. It's called The Lion's Roar.
lol yeah i do listen to a lot of dubstep + i create a lot of loud glitchy basses in my spare time.. it wasnt 100% possible with Charlatan in this competition otherwise i would have went all out lol :hihi:

& yes very good start on your demo! you know what your doing so there isn't many tips i can give (but i will give some anyway).

you haven't done all the processing you can on the bass (which im sure you will do when you finish the whole track) but yeah i think it generally needs some nice chorusing and also some saturation/pultec eq boosting on the low mids (some people avoid boosting the 200-300Hz area but i try to do this carefully by purposely layering phat sounding low-mid basses and saturating them.. and when mixing down i sometimes sidechain EQ points on my sounds rather than volumes, so try that if you need to since it gets quite difficult to get a clean mix with a FULL sound with louder dubstep.)

also resample maybe, but be subtle with FX on loud resampled basses.. i use dry/wet knobs on most of them just so the original signal comes through since its very easy to mess things up when resampling.

your sub just needs a simple volume up.

the rest sounds great. i really like the intro im sure u can build it and make it sound really good :D

also try not to give up and make another song, i used to do that for months & months when i started dubstep. stick to your tracks and if you get bored of the basses then automate more knobs/parameters.

i hope maybe some these tips will help you :)

Great effort Half-Ninja, like the others I'm loving that bass. This month's CM has a feature on 'How to make Dubstep' and I was thinking of a trying a dubstep vibe for next months competition.

Any tips on how you made Charlatan sound like a Dubstep monster?

Cheers
Aj

REUPLOADED my track! same plugins and same amount of instances, i clipped the volume on the drums for a harder hit since distortion FX etc aren't allowed (thanx for the tip irion!)
also i limited & EQed everything a bit more right before the deadline :party:

i only first heard of Charlatan yesterday, but i make basses in other synths everyday so its a bit of general experience.
i mainly had to rely on the envelopes (since this is the key thing in sound design anyway) and the best tip i can give is to make use of them properly & not rely on LFOs as much.
for nearly every sound i made use of the Shape (using square waves) & Ring Modulation knobs to add character to the sounds.
for the plucky basses in my song, i automated the envelopes MOD Attack in my DAW (which the MOD envelope in Charlatan was assigned to the band pass filter) and i had every sound set on Retrigger mode so playing another note would restart the modulation again. i used a lot of instances and stacked no more than 3 sounds together for the basses (some basses were just 1 instance).
for each drum sound i stacked like 5 or 6 instances and did different pitch bends with the envelopes + adjusted the filters differently for each instance.
i didnt automate many external filters, its quicker and more convenient to rely on envelopes within the synth.. but i could have gotten more variation of sounds if i did this.
most synths out there are capable of a whole bunch of sounds + if u added distortion to get more harmonics and used different filter types and automated a little bit, you could create nearly any sound out there :D

@Andjac1963
Next OSC synth fits perfect for DubStep, to be honest, very gritty bass from it, and some nice pads too. I was thinking about to make a DubStep one too, but let's see.
Anyway, for me, it will be difficult to "manage", wait some hours, you will see which one is for this month.

@Half-Ninja
Thanks for the tips, of course they are always welcome. ;)
How old are you anyway? Feel free to reply, or not.

Have a good day both :)

Quaoar wrote:Hi Guys,

After reading about this OSC in Computer Music thought it was a great idea
& give it a try. I started the track on a netbook and mixed it on a laptop for the convenience of a better screen and just more power.

NO FX (had the idea that was not allowed)

Heard some good stuff listening to the entries.

Have a nice day!
@Quaoar
Hi, welcome to OSC.
The use of effects are of course allowed, or you just took your own personnal rule to make it without effects because you wanted?

I couldn't make a whole track without effects to be clever, so this is so brave from you with this no-built-in-effects synth. Cheers.

Taking about something else, another submission without a text entry yet. Key88 - Halloweenie Funk. I hope the creator will come in time.
This track makes me remind of Gorgorgath/Dr. Nutson "old" entries, doesn't it? ;) hehe.

@ Gorgorgath
Be clever, you made another SoundCloud account right? :hihi:

18 tracks so far, not bad!

Have a good day :)
Was a good test to see what could be done without efx, but for some sounds
to get them sync to the tempo was tough also because I'm not a synthprogrammer (my main instrument is the guitar). Alltough now I learned to play around with the knobs in Charlatan for a bit. And I can learn from you guys to see what makes the track work efxwise. :D

Ok deadline has passed so now closed for submissions.

Voting thread is here.

BjPorter will be able to write up a submissions post in this thread as he had trouble with KVR around deadline and a warning and upload was done in time.

I'll prepare a pack of presets that i created for this OSC. If anyone is interested in it...

Yes great, please do. :tu:

Others too if you feel like sharing.

Can anyone figure out what the divers said? These were the last words that the communication center heard. Strange harmonics, and resonant sounds were heard toward the end.

Here is the latest information: NSC Memorandum 12044:

Thanks Alvfaria, some excellent sounds there

Here's my bank for anyone who's interested. I didn't think they were particularly special so I was pleasantly surprised by the positive reception they got - although a lot of it is down to the excellent Melda effects used to process them

Cubase insists on saving patches in its own 'vstpreset' format but I found this useful tool
http://code.google.com/p/fxtractor/
to convert them to FXB so I hope it works

If anyone wants to know the effects path they were fed through on my track to get the finished sound I'd be happy to let you know
