All "pros" moving over to Logic, why?

The other day it occurred to me that not one of the 4 applications I most commonly use to make music (Live, Numerology, PT, Peak Pro) are 64bit applications. I do occasionally use Logic, Cubase, Reaper and Reason but only when clients give me projects from those apps, to work on.hibidy wrote:Is it x64 yet?
I should really get with the program.

joke FAIL!
I realize PT x64 is coming. More power to them, I wish I could use it. I liked PT 7 mpowered but I'm not going back to the limitations of proprietary format.
I'm host sad right now. I really thought reaper was my true love, but even it leaves me cold (crystal clear reaper is NOT developing midi further
)
There is a side of me that wants to fall for what I fell for back in 2005 and get a mac and go logic........but that was EPIC fail back in the day.

Not yet afaik. I think next version 10?hibidy wrote:Is it x64 yet?
I doubt if the - majority - of current PTHD owners are heavy virtual instrument users but I'm sure a lot of them are. Many of those people probably already own Logic, for the historically better midi and (depending on the version of PT) TDM support. Both Logic and DP support TDM up to version PT version 8.0 and I suspect they will also support the new hardware, something no other native DAW's do, afaik.
If you look at the timeline, where their support for TDM stopped, that's likely about the time AVID was well into working on the new hardware system.

I got the joke and actually thought it was funny for once.hibidy wrote:joke FAIL!
Is it? I don't know anyone who still works there, so I don't get the inside scoop anymore.hibidy wrote:I realize PT x64 is coming.
I've been looking to move away from PT to Reaper or Logic but it'll take me a long time. I know these programs well enough but I just can't get around them as quickly as I can with PT. It feels like I'm trying to run a marathon in a vat of molasses. I know what I need to click on to make things happen but I haven't developed the muscle memory to get things done quickly.
My only fear about moving to Logic is spending the next few years getting up to speed then having Apple drop it or castrate it some how.
Sorry for the off topic rant.

I think some of us are just doomed to forever meander the DAW universe looking for our real home....

64bit is on their announced roadmap, and it won't be a 32bit compatible release. Can't find the video now, but I recall they mentioned PT10 was done as a transition release (so there's AAX and 1 last ver for TDM users) before 64bit.justin3am wrote:Is it? Funny I'm looking to do exact opposite: to get back into PT, just with the same problem... Especially once I learned the ins and outs of Logic midi editing it's hell to adopt to anything else (no one takes away my Transformer!)I've been looking to move away from PT to Reaper or Logic but it'll take me a long time. Can't for life understand why people will want to switch Logic route though from another DAW they already knew. As much as I married to it there're lots of pain/bugs involved (raise your hand last time you enjoyed edit automation in this bloody thing)

So what you are saying is there is no way to actually win?softska wrote:

Oh I love that too... But I'll gladly give that up if they'll stop stucking in 127 steps the moment you start clicking on the lane, and somehow dragging up and down randomly produce different values depends on how fast your drag your mouse on that no-so-tall track height... And that semi-hidden automation event list that doesn't reflect anything that's actually on the lane (same midi value on list, 2 diff values on the lane)...debra1rlo wrote:softska wrote:(raise your hand last time you enjoyed edit automation in this bloody thing)I actually like it in that it's like moving bezier curve points in Illustrator/Photoshop/etc but with slightly more control

Wanna bet on Bitwig solving all of our DAW problems?hibidy wrote:So what you are saying is there is no way to actually win?
