You have proven your point, to yourself. I'm not going to pick apart the flaws in the test, but there are many: tester and observer bias, level matching, settings, material, versions (1.03 busspressor?). Having your preference first as "a" set the stage for it to be the hand picked favorite.

Maybe The Glue is the best for EDM on laptop speakers? I do get what you're saying about thoughts that newer is better. I might still get The Glue sometime, though when I demoed it, it just didn't grab me (heh). It does seem to have a clinical reputation and I can certainly see uses for that quality, particularly with electronic sources.

Thanks for presenting the samples and especially for including the original. I'll use it to put my Duende bus comp head to head with the PSP, since those are the two I own. Aside from sound, I went for the PSP as an alternative to the Duende, my price ($65), because its license can be transferred, etc.

Yes.

Which one is A shouldn't matter in a blind test. I just exported them A, B, C, because that was the order I had them on the inserts.

Well, I applaud DJ and Anti for posting and checking (far more thoroughly than I would have) but it's true it's not scientific. In fact, I think some people could easily be talked into a placebo effect on this because the are indeed VERY similar. Nothing is obvious at first (and I believe one could drive themselves into borderline insanity checking too hard.

Anyhow, if I want to go back and say c is best, I'll do so w/o worrying about your permission thank you very much! :x

On my headphones Anthony mate, I am liking the added oomphh/weighty sound of example b whichever one it is is really beefs that electronic groove up without any unwanted/audible side effects to my humble ears. So for this little test on personal preference b takes it for me

Nice one dude and all the best you're way and to all as always :)

I would have liked more feedback, but here are the answers:

A = The Glue
B = Vertigo
C = BussPressor

From the results, it seems that not that many people went for BussPressor. Taking this into consideration it looks like my thoughts about people liking it because it's a "shiny new toy" are right.

Anyone that decides to jump in now and say anything regarding the audio demos such as "C" is my favorite is no longer valid. You're supposed to submit your thoughts before the answers a revealed. Someone on Gearslutz had a hard time grasping this concept.
Thanks for putting up the little taste test, Shame not more people did not get involved I agree, Seems like pikadilly and Myself have pricey tastes then :help: but mighty fine it is/worth it I think. I must admitt that I was really close to pulling the trigger on Vertigo when it was released and I demoed it, It just happened that I picked up a rack unit compressor, Not beneficial to Yourself as You're a MAC man Ant but anyway Herbert/Bootsie released ThrillseekerLA which was and still is giving me cheap thrills and I could not stump up the money for it. Intresting that I also chose it on electronic source material too as You probably remember/know that I am a metalhead and rarely listen to much electronic music, Never the less I do enjoy electronic music.

As said it adds a good bit of beef/weight to the low-end/just about weighty enough in the lower-mids also without being too much which I found on my own material and holds true for all styles/tastes it would seem. Really, really good compressor and if I didn't have the Waves API 2500, SSL G and V-Series collection it would definately be on my shopping list.

Also You have saved me the time to demo BussPressor when my new audio machine is done as I have so much to try to catch up with, Always good to knock one of the list already :tu:

Nice one and again thanks Ant, Best Your way :)

Edited to look presentable, Heck I should get some rest/shut eye :oops:

The words "listening on laptop" are an insult to audio, especially for a so called plug test... :dog:

So, did anyone get a shout back about the mousewheel thingy/not working thing?

It's currently on sale for 19$!

Is it really good, better than other SSL compressors emulations out there?

I end up using Ableton's The Glue more because it's built in and easy to sidechain, but I like PSP BussPressor just as much as The Glue and NI's Solid Bus comp for that kind of hefty punch.

Post

Just want to say that this processor is just fantastic. Anyone thinking about the sale - don't be put off by the ugly, ancient GUI. The whole MixPack is brilliant. PSP = quality.

Post

I know PSP is quality. I have Oldtimer and NobleQ. They are really gooood.
I imagine Busspressor is the same, but there is so many SSL emulations, that i really want the best one.

The best one can be based on material used on sometimes like specifically I've been looking for a bus compressor specifically to add punch and weight to a drum bus and so far my favorite is SoundSpots FireFly compressor which just came out and is on a great sale right now. The Firefly has some sort of built in transient shaper and analog buttom that makes drums punch harder then any other compressor I've tested recently it's actually a little ridiculous lol

Unexpected update, for sure, and nice update price. It definitely looks more modern, but also pretty generic. Honestly, I think I’d prefer to have the old design with a refresh, resizable UI, etc., because it had a more identifiable PSP look, but I’m probably in the minority. Anyway, good to see they haven’t forgotten their older plugins.
