Well to the contributor's defense, they are still working within the limitations of the original skin. Spacing and placement are still just as relevant.
As mentioned multiple times besides changing the controls with Knobman (or other programs) and also changing the background the placement of all controls could be edited within the XML file but doing a new background and comletely re-designing the arrangement of controls needs more skills and more than 2 days (actually i used KnobMan for the first time on last Friday and learned a lot in those few days).

This is the first part of the Envelope 1 controls position/coordinate settings in the XML file (coordinates 0,0 seem to be at the upper left):

Code: Select all

<!-- Env 1 -->
<CtrlInfo><ID>E1VelLev</ID><ImgName>SmallKnob</ImgName><PosX>216</PosX><PosY>551</PosY>/CtrlInfo>
FWIW i just posted a download link for my skins. If people do not use the full skins maybe they need at least parts like the knobs etc.

I just found that if you want to change positions of certain knobs the best is to check how much the coordinates in a picture editor like e.g. Windows Paint differs from the value in the XML file.
For example for the big knob in my current skins it is a diference of 30 for both teh x- and y-axis. This means i have to subtract 30 from the coordinates i get from PAint when i want to edit the values in the XML file.
That amount is differenrt for each GUI element /e.g. big knob, small knob, 2-way switch etc.).

I have tested this with a background image where i changed the placement of some controls and the results are quite precise this way. Fine tuning usully is always necessary.

It's only been five days. It takes much longer than that to make an entirely new skin.

Yes so far all anyone has done is work within the default skin. Give it time for the real skinners to work their magic.......

Anyway I just wanted to make sure this point is clear to everybody....it's not the skin that controls whether you see Mod Source Dials or Dropdowns, it's an *option* that *any* skin must support both. Click on the Admiral Quality logo on the gui and the Global Options box opens. Then once you choose Dropdowns for example every time you open Poly-Ana it will remember your choice. There seemed to be some confusion about the Dials vs Dropdowns.

I urge any of the real skinners to contact Admiral Quality while you are working on a skin and work together. He can help with detail and you might be able point out things in the current skinning scheme that could be added, changed or improved.

Anyway skinning is a work in progress. I suggest we all be patient and see what happens in the days and weeks ahead....... :tu:

EDIT: One thing that would help is if the OP would change the thread title to something like "Earn a Poly-Ana license in return for doing a Skin". That would help get the word out.

But how can you do a skin, without owning PolyAna in the first place? :?

Without a license Poly-Ana should run in demo mode AFAIK and with the download and what is available at the Beta page you got access to the necessary resources. Of course als JKnobman should be necessary if you want to create custom kbobs/switches.

Link for Knobman/JKnobman/WebKnobman:

JKnobMan is teh new Java based version. WebKnobMan is a browser base application:

Come on people. For years and years people have been saying they would buy Poly-Ana but the skin turned them off. Heated battles were fought over the original skin. Now that AQ have finally relented we could show more support.

For those who have ideas for a skin...express them. If you can think of any skinners let them know of the license offer.

This isn't going to happen over night.........

I'd love to see what http://flavoursoflime.blogspot.com/ could do.

Hear hear! Poly-Ana has a beautiful sound, if the GUI was the only thing preventing someone from getting it, this could be their big chance to give a great synth a "fair hearing". :D
A well-behaved signature.

Has someone told him about the free synth offer? That guy could get a free PA for sure with a skin like that...
