I totally get where you're coming from though. That's why I was saying don't take offense I'm not saying that you're crazy or anything I'm just so happy to have a great rompler that exists out of all of the millions of VAs that are out there I kind of lose sight of Omnisphere's synth capabilities.Gonga wrote:You are entitled to your opinion and you may be right that Spectrasonics views Omnisphere as a rompler, because I have requested this of Spectrasonics many times and it hasn't happened. On the other hand a lot of folks, Eric included I think, consider, or would like to consider Omnisphere a "powerful," "desert Island" synth, with superior synthesis capabilities (and after all, to synthesize means to combine - digital + analog?). Many people, myself included, would appreciate the combination of Omni's capabilities together with a higher-quality analog engine. What I'm asking for is an improvement in the sound of the synth, not it's flexibility. I think that's reasonable given Omnisphere's "desert island" reputation, which to many folks, is undeserved, particularly regarding it's analog capabilities.
Hi from Spectrasonics!

Yes, you make a valid point. Omnisphere is my favorite rompler (there are quite a few who take offense at calling it that...), though I do tend to use Kontakt even more simply because of all the libraries for it. Imagine if Omnisphere opened up to 3rd party libraries. Or think of this...what if Kontakt had the power and interface of Omnisphere? The future may hold such a thing. Anyway, I really love Omni, which is why I'd love to see them ramp up the VA portion.

Yeah I have to agree that the general quality could be better of the VA portion. And I don't mean making sound super analog or anything. But it could do with some higher quality filters. The power filters are nice (a little quiet), but the juicy ones aren't all that juicy.

Its kind of a rompler in so much that it has thousands of sounds covering a wide range of material.
But......No support for velocity layering of samples and other things that would really be needed to function like most romplers. Omnisphere is really more of a synth. You don't find a lot of the bread and butter kinds of sounds that you normally see in a rompler. Its sample playback is too crude that way. I would actually like to see them improve the rompler aspect of it, because if they did that, not only would it be an awesome synth as it is now, but it would become my goto rompler with all the bread and butter sounds I could ever imagine. I'd use it for stage a lot more, that is for sure. It could have some honest to god acoustic pianos, organs, string sections with velocity layers and so forth.
In a recent interview Eric Pershing noted that they think of their 3 products as very long life products that will continually evolve, rather then have an end of life and be superseded by something new. They think of it more like a DAW, in a way, in that they will evolve and continue to take on new features and capabilities and to be long term sonic work horses. I like this philosophy.
This is one reason I jumped on the Omni bandwagon with Omni2 and coughed up the $450 bones, which lets be honest, is a lot for a soft synth. But I plan to make it my primary synth, make a lot of sounds with it and ride along with the evolution that spectrasonics brings to it in the future.

Yeah I agree with that as well and is one reason that I am a happy owner. If you look at the evolution of Stylus RMX, that was a pretty good example of how their products evolve (though it could use some love again of course). I much prefer this style than some companies that continually put out a new synth that has slight variations from one they already put out.Dewdman42 wrote:Its kind of a rompler in so much that it has thousands of sounds covering a wide range of material.

Totally understood. Also as Dewdman42 said, Omnisphere could use more simple bread and butter sounds instead of the esoteric type pianos, guitars, etc...that Omnisphere tends to boast. The Roland modules of yester century did have all of these simple patches and that's what I loved so much about those synth modules. Let's see what the future holds for Omnisphere.Gonga wrote:Yes, you make a valid point. Bad business or not, I had to pay 10 bucks for the Trillian download. I forgot the DVD at the studio and I didn't want to wait for Monday.
At least they deliver a good download speed. My download rate is maxed
