oh I so want to answer that but I have too much respect for IL, gol and jmc...oh but it's so hard to pass up a set up like that...I better go to bed before I bite my tongue off...grrrr... :help:

Technically there are 3 oscs (2 of which give you a choice of over 20 waveforms). And that "1" filter is a choice of about 18 different filters. Is that weak?
yes, it's pretty common, I've seen more featured synthedit-made plugins
True, it's a very successful synthdesign. Access Virus and Novation V-Station are built the same way. However though, I design VSTi's with synthedit on my spare time and I never saw an OSC with 20 waveforms or a filter with 18 filtertypes.

You're really comparing oranges to apples. Infector is a subtractive synth while sytrus is an FM/Hybrid synth. They're two different things, one is based on having frequency rich waveforms that you filter into sounds. The other is based on having simpler waveforms that are added to eachother to build up more complex sounds. Meaning one is likely to have more oscillators than the other.

If one were to compare infector to something it would be wasp I suppose. Which is also a simple "mini" synth with 5 filtertypes and 4 osc types. wasp costs 29 bucks in FL. Or perhaps simsynth live with similar features that costs 35 bucks in FL.

nope, FM is not at all about adding waveforms. And Sytrus is as much subtractive as FM (and even if it was, the OPL2 chip proved you can do good FM with just 2 oscillators), it was just marketted as FM, but we have amazing subtracting presets. It does FM, RM, PWM, plucked, has 6 oscillators, 3 filters/distortions units, effects, envelopes that no buzz machine will ever have, and one of the best unison. Infector couldn't have 1/10th of this without having a GUI anyway (as far as I remember it's GUI-less).
As for the Wasp, it's one of those synths as well. Used to be cool years ago, but starts to get a little obsolete. Like Infector, that is.

I was looking at the picture (closely) again...is that Sytrus #2 on Mikes channels?

I wonder if IL could get him to do some prestets? :)

Carb.

Gol: Sorry, the word "adding" suggests it's a pure additive synth. Modulating waveforms would've been a better word. I'm not a native english speaker ;) - I screw up at times.

Sytrus is a massive allround synth. It costs 160 bucks uses 6 osc's and has a huge amount of modulation. It's very different from a standard subtractive synth and there's no free vst/buzz synth to compete with that and I never said there was, then again if there was you'd likely be out of business. I just said buzz's machines should not be described as "shitty basic machines". Especially considering they're free and you charge money for similar synths. Like wasp and simsynth live. You also say synths like wasp and simsynth live are obsolete. I really can't agree with you, for that price maybe yes. But it's a classic synth design that has pretty much worked fine since the 70ies and being simple has advantages. Ease of use and low cpu usage being two of them.

Nowadays there are so many high quality free synths that everyone is constantly being pushed to take it to the next level. We're seeing a whole bunch of hybrid, fm, additive synths that are really powerful. In a year or two there are likely gonna be similar synths on the free side of the market, then it's all gonna move another step. It's a fun market to watch, everything is happening so quickly.

Infector has been around for a few years. It's a very nice synth that I wish was available as VSTi since I use Cubase myself. Sytrus is brand new, you said there's never gonna be a buzz synth like it. Well who knows, BuzzLE is just around the corner meaning there's likely gonna be an upswing of activity in Buzz dev'ing.

Anyway : Let Arguru drop me ( jmc@image-line.com ) a mail so we can sort things out.

I'd like to see him on our Developers Weekend in September as well. We'll go carting, play Pain(t)ball & whale seeking at about 50km from his house in Malaga so ...

See ya,

jmc (FL Studio)
Some OT:

Cool JMC , i really will be happy to go, i just have some questions:

- Whale seeking? As far as i know, I'm afraid if u want to seek a whale in you have to go like 5000Km in sea from my house in Malaga, unless i'm missing something =). On the other point, we could hunt some jellyfish at 50 meters from the beach.

- It seems Imageline ppl is doing good business. Why not some ferrari in Puerto Banus instead a cart?

- Do you guys speak spanish? My spoken english is even worse than my wrotten english.
