Yes, I'm talking about the Main page, not the Details section. Also, if I go under "view", then "controls", and scroll down to the bottom, there is a check box to turn Animation On/Off. It is checked. Unchecking and then checking again made no difference. I've read now that perhaps it has something to do with the older Radeon Graphics cards not supporting Metal, which this might use. Funny that the plugin would adapt to the lack of the correct card and not show the button on the Main page.

Thanks, but it's been solved -- the visualization doesn't work on Macs with older graphics cards (like my Radeon 5870) that don't support Metal. No big deal, I probably would've kept the eye candy turned off anyway.Winstontaneous wrote:Hate to ask an obvious question but are you on the Details page or the main one? Been using Live on my Mac for years now. I honestly prefer Logic as a DAW and I am under no illusion as to the difference with Live. It is actually a hardware thing for me now. I have used both Windows and OSX for many years and I am quite comfortable with both. It's just that I am also comfortable upgrading a PC to keep it running well for a lot less than the cost of replacing Macs.jonljacobi wrote:The horns and strings aren't half bad. By that I mean, pretty decent. Okay, pretty darn nice so far.
As to switching to Live, or Bitwig. Live is what it says it is, best for Live performance. Or sound creation. Bitwig is about two years from being mature but is extremely fun to play with if you like that Eurorack modular stuff. Live costs $600 configured as Logic. Bitwig $300. Neither are as configurable/tailorable as Logic.
And you'll find just as many people complaining about stuff as you will with Logic. Actually, more. Witness 7 years of requests for comping in Live. I'm guessing that if you were into live or sound creation, you'd already have one or the other. For straight up recording and production, neither can touch Logic. It's not even close. Start talking Cubase or Pro Tools for that.
I understand frustration with Apple. Especially with all the arrogance involved, but I don't think you're going to find the grass any greener.
On topic, I have just downloaded 10.4 and as seems to be the consensus, yet another excellent update that really has Logic as one of the best value DAWs on the market...good stuff

Is this a selective statement or an ignorant?Zexila wrote:also Bitwig is just "there" at this point, been demo-ing it for last few months and Logic just don't have much over it IMO, gonna wait for public demo of 2.3 and guess that's it.
Score editor? Articulation system? Support for surround sound? Midi warping? multiple tempo curves? Never seen such things in Bitwig ...
I guess I could go on for quite a while?
Bitwig is great - but nowhere near to be able to replace a DAW like Logic if general one does not only need such a specific set of functionality.

I think you would enjoy it a lot and benefit from it. It really helps understanding the delay density, frequency distribution and diffusion. And it appears to be fully hardware-rendered, it doesn’t register in the CPU meter. Worth a hardware upgrade? I really speak just for myself, my own needs and preference, so as basic DAW user as I am, I find Bitwig quite there for myself, I'm not obsessed with features on paper or additional content, but how DAW actually works with the features it got in real world usage and how proficient I can work in it.jonljacobi wrote:As to switching to Live, or Bitwig. As far as Logic 9 vs X goes, I don't find anything in X that is worth shelling out for machine that can actually run it today and in few years, that's my answer in January 2018.

I’m running latest with Sierra on a late 2112 Mac Mini - less than $500.Zexila wrote:

It's 2018, you are suggesting to pay 500 bucks (or even more, just checked local listings) for second hand 2012 dual core Mini that's not going to be supported in 2 years anyways and on which every next macOS runs more and more slower?Bodhisan wrote:I’m running latest with Sierra on a late 2112 Mac Mini - less than $500.Zexila wrote:

But my comments about the Studio Horns... They aren't pretty darn good, they're brilliant. Married with Logic's integrated articulation thing, the whole deal is so easy for "realistic-ing" horns that I'm ecstatic. Just redid something from scratch that I did with another brass ensemble and it took minutes instead of hours. And they sound better.

I guess that's true that it might not be supported in two years. Actually, I replied off the cuff and didn't look back far enough into the thread to see that you were a Mac user and are knowledgeable about minis vs. Pros, etc. I don't mean to attempt to enlighten you. It's rather true that we're taking a gamble with sticking with Apple, but I think this recent lawsuit with the iPhone batteries re updates will hopefully make them rethink making "today's" computers obsolete via updates - that's pretty easy to track and present in court. I've been thinking about upgrading my Mac for a while, but I don't want to go through the headache of relicensing all my crap...and, truly, my only "slowness" is in loading projects, which takes about 40 seconds. I was thinking this morning that that's probably much quicker than old studios switching out reels.Zexila wrote:It's 2018, you are suggesting to pay 500 bucks (or even more, just checked local listings) for second hand 2012 dual core Mini that's not going to be supported in 2 years anyways and on which every next macOS runs more and more slower?Bodhisan wrote:I’m running latest with Sierra on a late 2112 Mac Mini - less than $500.Zexila wrote:

I'm digging the new update a lot! For me the biggest new feature which was understated in the announcement is the addition of Articulation and keyswitch handling. This is a game changer for what I do.
I was on the fence about Logic for a long time, preferring Digital Performer. But this past year I have switched my attention to Logic and so far, not looking back.
All the DAW's have some pros and cons, there is no way around that. I don't care how many discussions about it happen on these boards you hear from all sides, pros and cons and love/hate relationships. Same with the whole mac/pc endless debating about it. There is no best one. But at the moment I am in love with Logic for a variety of reasons. I still also love OSX compared to Windows notwithstanding Apple's draconian, upgrade practices. Notwithstanding that, my 2010 MBP and MacPro are still running strong and running all the latest software. How many years should we expect a computer to work before it needs to be converted into a file server?
For the price, Logic cannot be beat, period. $199 and they haven't charged for an update in how long? Sorta looks like they might not ever charge for an update. It comes with a huge collection of instruments and FX, some of them quite excellent, some a bit dated, but still excellent.
The recent FREE update, included more new instruments, more new FX and some killer feature additions that in any other DAW would have been a $200 upgrade.

How do you download the Alchemy and Reverb patches?
Also I thought the reverb was supposed to have some sort of fancy visualization but I can't see it - how do you turn it on?
