Of course, and that's not really the point here as most of the participants, I think (tell me if I'm wrong) are not audio professionals but rather people with interests. Maybe some will become truly professionals, who knows. In this context one can take any tool available to learn and progress and produce output. One does not need Pro Tools to produce sensible output.

It went out of the audio realm because some started to shoot at Linux in general. Like this other chap who is saying that LibreOffice is not used in businesses.
zvenx wrote: So I am not 'fighting down' linux in general. It has advantages in other fields, I just don't think it is happening in audio or see signs it is about to be happening in Audio and for developers to spend precious R&D time and money to develop for a fringe OS (to the Audio world) just doesn't make much sense to me, and I don't see it happening.
I quite agree. And again that's not the point in this KVR context. As somewhat of a parallel, elsewhere in KVR/Instruments we can read about people using obsolete synths. I actually got two recently (Sax Lab and CrX from LinPlug) and although rendered obsolete by now are working great and are providing nice colours. This is to say that Bitwig and Mixbus32C on Linux, plus all u-he plugins (and eventually Zebra3 :) ) plus pianoteq, plus all Harrison plugins, and other native plugins, is a substantial offering to produce a sensible output in this KVR context. All that's needed to be added are creative and mixing/mastering skills. And as such Linux should not be slammed down like some are doing.

Without my initial reply of 'waiting for Zebra3 for Linux' this thread would have not lived to its subject line. :D

What an explosion of emotion in this multifacet thread!

'DOESN'T' includes up to how many companies for you ?

Well, you expressed an opinion, that the choice of plugins in Linux is 'poor and limited' which is based on your own productions and the large use of all kind of FXs found in them, and then you get the squishy emotions and popcorn. Please do digest properly !

Unknowingly I must say. Considering the output it generated I would, in retrospect ... do it again ! :D It's somewhat, kind of, a fun in a way to see so many people shooting at Linux. I would like to hear audio productions from everyone of them ... 8)

I see you
And I just wanna dance with you
Every time they turn the lights down
Just wanna go that extra mile for you
You got my display of affection
Feels like no one else in the room but you
We can get down like theres no one around
We keep on rockin, we keep on rockin'
Cameras are flashin while we're dirty dancin
They keep watchin, keep watchin'
Feels like the crowd is sayin
Gimme gimme more, gimme more, gimme gimme more
Gimme gimme more, gimme more, gimme gimme more
Gimme gimme more, gimme more, gimme gimme more
Gimme gimme more, gimme more, gimme gimme more
The center of attention
Even when theyre up against the wall
You got me in a crazy position
If youre on a mission you got my permission

Well, the top two are Suse (makers of the Suse Linux) and Red hat (makers of the Red Hat - and I think also Ubuntu) Linux. It would be almost anedotic if these two companies were using Windows or OS X internally, woudn't it? And presuming they are using their own OSes, the choice of a productive suite is really limited: either Open Office or Libre Office, which are forks of the same product - and none of them quite on par with MS Office (I know - I used both for some years).

Not that they are bad, and we can't be productive with them, but let's be honest - MS Office is better.

BTW - What happened to the KDE Office?

Well, hoping you do read other things than Britney Spears lyrics. Here's one to cheer you up:

Post

Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel

You beat my pillow with your whispers and your screams
Like in the Sixties you're my peaches and my cream
You give me loving like I'm waking in a dream
I wouldn't swap you for the riches of no queen

Don't show me doors, just give me the keys
You're like some devil when I'm down on my knees

If this is love you've gotta give me more
If this is love you've gotta give me more
If this is love you've gotta give me more
Give me more
Gimme more of your loving
Give me more of your loving

You give me shivers when your tongue is in my ear
Like in the movies you're my pin-up of the year
I'm so excited by your alligator tears
It's only love but then it's music to my ears

Don't give me words, show me your eyes
You're my tarantula so it'll come as some surprise

If this is love you've gotta give me more
If this is love you've gotta give me, give me more
If this is love you've gotta give me more
Give me more
Gimme more of your loving
I want love, more of your loving

Fkn hell, 188. That's about one company more than i would have expected. :D

No, really, you ARE aware how few that is? Or are you?

Anyway, i'm done here. Already have enough discussions with Jehova witnesses.

To play devil's advocate, there's about 30 million businesses in the US as of today. So that's... 188 companies out of 30 million businesses using LibreOffice? :o

Well, I must say I'm not an office/bureau employee so I do not use a word processor often to say the least. On these occasions I used one, eg. to make presentation slides, official documentation, I have to say that with both LibreOffice and MS Office it's somewhat of a battle of sorts to get the text right, although since I have more experience with LO I got to know the right things to do to have good output in my work flow.

You had a chance to compare deeply LibreOffice with MS Office to issue such a statement, probably due to your professional usage of both, and that's something about which I cannot say.
