I have got to stop watching Ibanez GB10 reviews. They aren't going to bring me any closer to owning one. But own one I will.

I hope I won't be sending the D-18 back. Supposed to be here today...
Just as I was writing that, the brown truck arrived. I've been playing the D-18 for the last 50 minutes.
MINE!
NOPE!
There's a bad smell coming off it, kinda like someone had washed cat pee off it.

Place some bicarbonate of soda in a cloth, tie it off and, then place inside the guitar, it might work.Bombadil wrote: Thu Sep 26, 2019 9:15 am There's a bad smell coming off it, kinda like someone had washed cat pee off it.

Thanks for the suggestion, but nope. It's going back. Also, in a side by side comparison with my D-28, it was not impressive. It also lacked the 'oomph' of the Eastman OM, which is mindboggling. I'm trying to get the Eastman back that I had gotten setup. I'm too old for this shit. The Noodlist wrote: Thu Sep 26, 2019 2:26 pmPlace some bicarbonate of soda in a cloth, tie it off and, then place inside the guitar, it might work.Bombadil wrote: Thu Sep 26, 2019 9:15 am There's a bad smell coming off it, kinda like someone had washed cat pee off it.

Making fun of Chappers' sound? That's not at all what I'm after.
His guitars seem well made and I love the look of the ML3 Pro Triton. I feel like buying a guitar whose aesthetics really please me, for once. It would be my first single coil guitar, my first T-style, my only functional solid body (ever since a relative wrecked my first guitar). It might even be my first British guitar, as I'm still waiting for the Revelation I ordered.

I've played a couple and they are cool. I've just gotten to where I don't trust anything outside of Japan or the USA.

I'm getting the Eastman E10OM back.
So: final answer?
Eastman E10OM. Gorgeous, seriously kick-ass axe, blew away a Martin that cost 2x as much. I just have to get used to the string spacing.

What are you used to?

I dunno. I just found it a little awkward. It may also be in conjunction with the frets, which are a little higher than usual. Only guitars I've ever had this problem with are Eastmans. String spacing has never actually been an issue for me, so that is why I don't know.

Jeff Beck uses a Fender Noiseless bridge pickup and I found that I really couldn't cop his sound without it. It's like a smoother version of a single coil sound but not as a fat as a humbucker, just a nice tight sound that, like you said, works well with gain. I had a similar experience with a Dimarzio HS-3 loaded Yngwie Malmsteen Signature Strat, it sounded great through high gain.Forgotten wrote: Tue Sep 03, 2019 12:40 am I like noiseless pickups, but prefer the sound of a standard set of Fender pickups in a good guitar. I'd go for regular pickups for anything without gain, but noiseless are great once you start pushing the volume.
Speaking of expensive Strats, the Suhr Silent Back Plate System does a great job of retaining a vintage Strat sound. Their Classic models are very bright and chimey, just like a good Strat should sound and totally unlike the Fender Noiseless.I have a set of Fender vintage noiseless in my Strat, and they sound good, but not quite classic Strat. Someday I will get a decent Strat, but I definitely would want single coils in an expensive Strat.

Mine has Strat pickups in the neck and middle. It's great for switching from a tough and twangy bridge position to an SRV-style #4 position.Forgotten wrote: Wed Sep 04, 2019 1:15 am I've got some variation in sound on mine, but with another Tele I'd really want to hear a traditional 50s Tele sound with just 2 single coil pickups. Definitely would spend most of my time playing it with a clean sound, so wouldn't worry about noise from the pickups.

I developed a pickup system for our Jazzbird guitars that uses the hum-cancelling coil of a Seymour Duncan Stacked P90 to cancel hum in the neck and middle positions. The cool thing is the hum-cancelling coil has its own volume control so you can turn it down to get stock P90 sounds:
