Oops, I forgot to follow up. Andre Keilwerth got back to me personally, and helped me sort out all issues with Avenger licensing. Excellent customer service!

I just abandoned Avenger completely. I have had to struggle to get it licensed and working again several times now. I have music files that literally won't open for me if the Avenger has decided to unlicense itself, which happens often. Feature wise, the Avenger is great. But the licensing system is a complete nightmare. The final straw for me is tbat recently when I go through the relicensing nonsense, my number of activations decreases each time. Which means I can probably do this one or two more times and then I'll never be able to use it again. No other synth plugin has been this horrific just to keep it working. Absolute nightmare. Yes, customer service is good about responding and helping, but dear god what a huge pain this synth is. I never use it anymore. I am terrified that I will eventually be locked out from it forever and won't be able to open song files that used it.

I feel sorry for Andre Keilworth, he's on his own there doing all this. I am glad they moved away from the dongle for this, and I hope the other vengeance plugins follow suit, software license solutions are the best imo.
I've just joined the whole Avenger clan, but the codemeter thing is annoying as it starts when you start windows, that shouldn't happen, no software license software needs to load a program, just a service.
But I don't mind the whole reactivation after a certain period. If it means staying away from the Dongle.

I very much prefer the dongle over this.

Regarding codemeter, as far as I'm concerned you don't need its service to be up and running all the time. At least on Windows in Ableton, starting Avenger asks to start Codemeter service. In addition, you don't need to have Codemeter Control Center app running at all - it is auto started by default.
Surely it would be much easier to just not have to install these components but it is how it is

the problem is always the same, devs/companies doe what they mostly care more , where less inestment time and money is involed, and when MOST customers just bite it and support it the devs moves on . if most customers wouldnt support this crap move they wouldnt have moved to codemeter. always the same crap and always the same discussion. thats why we got cloud, digital stuff and so on.DanielPL wrote: Thu Jul 01, 2021 8:01 amExactly my thoughtsLeVzi wrote: Thu Jul 01, 2021 5:57 am I feel sorry for Andre Keilworth, he's on his own there doing all this. I don't know much about what devs/companies mostly care, besides finances (which is obvious for any business).Caine123 wrote: Thu Jul 01, 2021 8:21 am (...)

To not get into detailed discussions regarding customer care etc. by viewing multiple topics I see there are two main groups if it's going about licensing: one preferring only usb dongles (internet offline) and second preferring software solutions - this one divides into those accepting online internet activity (partially online?) and other preferring strictly offline activation (still software).
We are in the Avenger thread, so maybe Vengenace could solve both groups needs by introducing new licensing solution which may include both activation paths: usb dongle for those requiring it and online activation for others. I'm not considering solution costs here, it's up to dev/company to decide and adapt it to product cost if necessary - potential cost increase of the product cost may discourage customers (it's pretty obvious

Not to lessen anyone else's problems, but mine has always behaved fine with one exception - never run VMAN when Cubase is running with an instance of Avenger in it, even if Avenger is disabled. It crashes instantly every time.
Codemeter is far from perfect but, for me, it is better than a dongle so I can run it on the laptop without any problems.

The codemeter program doesn't need to be running, because the service is running, similar to ilok cloud. I assume thats why Avenger isn't asking me for my license when I start it.
I don't mind that at all, but it's annoying having to run a program AS WELL AS the DAW or whatever, I always used to forget to run splice when I opened serum. Real boner killer when you are on a roll making something.
Anything but the bloody dongle is good by me, Cubase is losing the dongle, I hope Vengeance move all the plugins to the new system too, then I can finally dump the dongle.

Same with Logic. Several times I've gone to add avenger and *poof* - logic shuts up shop. Doing the whole license 'thing' seems to sort it, but i could swear half the time it hadn't been that long since I last used it.noiseboyuk wrote: Thu Jul 01, 2021 9:03 am Not to lessen anyone else's problems, but mine has always behaved fine with one exception - never run VMAN when Cubase is running with an instance of Avenger in it, even if Avenger is disabled. Also fwiw, I'd take a hardware dongle every single time over software / cloud solutions. Don't think I had a single hiccup in 15 years of using an elicenser.

I never had much of a problem with the licensing aside from having to renew it every so often. I am however selling mine and all 30 expansions:

Oh no ! Again I am in trouble with this VPS Avenger , terrible code meter / Vmanager nightmare.
I think the support I need now is how to completely remove this crap from my systems.
Edit:
According to some users in the FB group, they have a similar experience as me.
Reactivation service is unavailable right now.

it is a ridiculous license system,
every few weeks or so gives me a code meter notifications, c
ode meter refresh never works, always have to reinstall it to get it working again.
today got a notification "you license needs to be refreshed", clicked "refresh",
and then got an error "deactivate: Error: empty licenses"
the message has been stuck like this for almost 20 minutes.
don't want to close the window because there's also a message "DO NOT LCOSE THIS WINDOW"
their license system is total disaster
