Syntify and the "analog" filter are really taxing the CPU - if they would be per layer that would x6 for the CPU on this part of the signal chain and roughly x2-3 in total. Thats the main reason they are per voice.MADMANJ wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 10:22 am [ ... ] synthify and the filters per layer would be a big improvement.

you can't drag & drop a selection from an audio track, for instance in Bitwig Studio (4.0.
, onto Novum?
the browser works, but i have many recordings, and to slice them to samples, i am lazy, or must take time, and do it sometime, but recordings from VM, etc. or loops from DAW's, or other program, i make many of them...
well to the point; drag & drop from the browser works, but if i want to take slice of the action, uhm, of recording... is that a limitation of Bitwig (and works with the sampler...).
didn't try it in my other DAW's yet. and is my first question... already having fun, working with it for 5 minutes, no content pack yet, downloaded... (i enjoy making sounds from scratch, and also make samples from different sources, source i 'make' myself).
again to the point.
slicing, for instance in Wavelab pro, isn't difficult, quite easy, and works great, but so many recordings!
to the point!
well finally i can work with Novum, bought it of course...

I see what you mean, it would indeed eat a lot of cpu powerPetVor wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 10:42 amSyntify and the "analog" filter are really taxing the CPU - if they would be per layer that would x6 for the CPU on this part of the signal chain and roughly x2-3 in total. However, it is not the end of the day ... and I have a wild idea how to make SYNTIFY more CPU efficient, so will see if I can make this happen in a later update.MADMANJ wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 11:46 amI see what you mean, it would indeed eat a lot of cpu powerPetVor wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 10:42 amSyntify and the "analog" filter are really taxing the CPU - if they would be per layer that would x6 for the CPU on this part of the signal chain and roughly x2-3 in total. i did it again, writing a post, that wasn't to the point, and therefore illegible...PetVor wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 11:49 amHowever, it is not the end of the day ... and I have a wild idea how to make SYNTIFY more CPU efficient, so will see if I can make this happen in a later update.MADMANJ wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 11:46 amI see what you mean, it would indeed eat a lot of cpu powerPetVor wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 10:42 amSyntify and the "analog" filter are really taxing the CPU - if they would be per layer that would x6 for the CPU on this part of the signal chain and roughly x2-3 in total. to the point:
i am trying to drag & drop a selection from an audio track within Bitwig Studio into Novum, that does not work. it can't work or? (sampler can do it, but that is a built-device..)

If you double click on the audio clip so that it opens in the lower half then you can drag and drop from that.

I find myself constantly going from SYNTH to TIMBRE to change "layer gain"! The gain really should be in the synth section IMO, maybe with pan too.MADMANJ wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 10:22 amI see what you mean. adjusting parameters per layer needs a lot of mouse clicks, it's better to have another button to set all those orange icons on and off. Also it would be nicer if it's possible to adjust all parameters in the SYN section PER layer, now this is only possible for pitch and detune but synthify and the filters per layer would be a big improvement. Anyway this is an excellent synth, really love to play with this on the Roli Seaboard. Good job, well done!bmanic wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 6:05 am I'm really starting to develop a love hate relationship with this thing.. and I'm only a day into the demo.
The usability is so infuriating while the sound potential is massive! Novum is frustratingly cumbersome to use. I can see so many places where the usability could be drastically improved (empirically measured in amount of mouse clicks needed to do something) and this brings up the frustration levels.
There are also a few missed opportunities when it comes to the synthesis itself, considering the potential given by the layer system. Then again, I need to remind myself that this is a version 1.0.
I'll definitely purchase this to support possible further development. This thing is a bit rough right now but could become a real gem in the future.

For me, so far, mapping some faders to parameters really enhances the experience. If you have some faders or knobs to map to, then you don't have to click back and forth between Synth and Timbre.

a layer mixer in a separate tab would be great:)

Can't drag and drop the BASIC folder from Mac finder into the VST in Ableton. The VST window vanishes when clicking outside of Ableton. Is there a work around for D&D in Ableton? I seem to remember it's always been an issue.

That's for sure. Honestly, it put me off as I clicked or dragged a whole bunch of different things and most of it made no difference to the sound.SLiC wrote: Sun Jun 19, 2022 4:35 pm it is a bit different than the norm and you won t get much out of this just 'clicking around'
I thought about looking for a tutorial or reading the manual, but honestly, I prefer either simple synths, or modular where each piece is relatively simple (even if the interactions between them can be complex).

Complexity is often a cost of innovation, from a product management POV. All it took for me was watching that 7 min video below. i dodnt find novum hard to use after watching the vid. ymmvfoosnark wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 4:55 pmThat's for sure.
