But YMMV. And at the end of the day, who cares?![]()

I think OB-E and SEM are up there with U-He's stuff, a step above TAL, Synapse, Arturia, etc.

Welp, I just found the thing that makes me want this -- I realize it's already been mentioned in the thread, but somehow I missed the "hidden panel" area that expands the Arpeggiator controls and gives you a Step Input, 32-Note sequencer including MIDI export, and HOLY CRAP that makes this thing just heaps of instant joy. I also like how the "3rd" and "5th" buttons (never seen these on arps / seqs before, very cool!) apply to the sequencer same as they apply to the Arp -- allows for very cool variations to the patterns, on the fly. Love it! And what's more, since it can store two sequences, you can flip between them on the fly as well, throw in the 3rd and 5th variations, etc...many possibilities here for some serious Berlin School workouts.
What weirds me out a bit is that this "small" implementation of a step sequencer feels far more immediate to actually use and get satisfying results with then the much bigger, more complicated sequencer included in the actual OB-E plugin. That thing is only 16 notes, and doesn't have the same ease of recording Step Input. YMMV but I never use that sequencer, it's kind of just a PITA....whereas this 'simple' sequencer in the SEM is a huge win, afaic!
So, they got me after all. Well done, Gforce

Transfer it over to the OB-E and it just sounds like a pretty, slightly panning sine patch.

bx_oberhausen can make some good sounds but is pretty harsh overall. The OB-1 and OB-Xa I had were much smoother, I assume an SEM is, as well, no?Effectsworks wrote: Sat Jul 09, 2022 6:55 pm Like I say. I have all three emus and I had a SEM (hardware). Incoming midi notes from daw into loomer architect (which aslo functions as a vst host and host four sems )
Giving each note a unique id ( routing it thru a switch ) which then triggers a sem
Four voice !!!....
Very cool. I'd love to hear what it sounds like with that.
You can get some ridiculously massive sounds going by loading several instances with different sounds in a DAW, but of course they're still mono.
I wonder what the result would be of using a keyboard with layered zones sending on different midi channels, and multiple instances loaded in a DAW receiving on those different midi channels. Might have to try that one.

Seriously everyone should get loomer architect to turn mono synths in polysynths , by just detuning each sem a tiny amount you get a huge sound

Have you tried Talmod , it's up there with the best of thembriefcasemanx wrote: Sat Jul 09, 2022 8:02 pm I think OB-E and SEM are up there with U-He's stuff, a step above TAL, Synapse, Arturia, etc.
Can you guess which is the sem and which is talmod ?
Both doing some filter audio rate mod
Of course the sem sounds like a sem and talmod has a more roland kind of vibe but when it comes to pure audio signal path and modulation update rate , talmod is topnotch

How is it different from putting the same synth on multiple tracks and sending the same MIDI to them? Or hosting them all in BlueCat Patchwork? Or using DDMF Metasynth? Or using PolychainDIY?gentleclockdivider wrote: Sat Jul 09, 2022 10:06 pmWell it sounds like a fourvoicefelis wrote: Sat Jul 09, 2022 9:59 pmgentleclockdivider wrote: Sat Jul 09, 2022 2:50 pm World exclusive four voice![]()

What makes Loomer unique for this scenario? (Legit question not trying to be snarky)

Is the SEM useful for nonstandard sounds? In the demos I hear quality conventional sounds but haven't heard anything much outside that. Is the SEM mainly, even only, for those old-school type conventional bass and lead sounds?
