Behringer pro 800

I dont think this will ever sound identical to the 600 because Behringer gave already introduced snappier envelopes and have another firmware update coming that includes user requests. I applaud the haste bugs are being fixed but if its just going to drift further and further from the OG with user requests its not really a copy anymore. Still sounds great, mine comes in two days and Im looking forward to hearing what $400 can sound like in the flesh.

It's not big loss really. The P600 is yet another CEM based 80s synth with software envelopes. There's nothing special about its sound unless you're a purist. They are also troublesome as far as reliability goes because dirty pots can cause the CPU to hang trying to scan the AD inputs.kcearl wrote: Wed Jul 12, 2023 12:08 am I dont think this will ever sound identical to the 600 because Behringer gave already introduced snappier envelopes and have another firmware update coming that includes user requests. It seems that the Pro-800s are in the U.S. now. YaY!

You are not locked to the Snappier envelopes only and can Use one of the other ones that are in the original Gligli version instead.kcearl wrote: Wed Jul 12, 2023 12:08 am I dont think this will ever sound identical to the 600 because Behringer gave already introduced snappier envelopes and have another firmware update coming that includes user requests. I Actually like that they improve on the Synth and making it more versatile and with more options that you can use if you want instead of it being a 100% Slave to the 600.
If You want the 600 sound you can make a preset as a template with the original 600 Settings and use that so you don't have to use the new features if you don't want to

New Firmware Released
As promised, PRO-800 firmware update 1.27 is now live on SynthTribe.
As we always stated, this is just the beginning of our super-exciting PRO-800 journey, and we hope this shows our commitment to make this a truly amazing instrument.
The PRO-800 is the world's first and only 8-voice, dual VCO synthesizer for under US$ 400, in line with Uli's vision to make synthesizers accessible for everyone.
Thank you for helping us improve this beautiful instrument. More to come
Improvements:
- Increased VCF ENV AMOUNT range
- Increased LFO to VCF modulation range
- Poly AT reimplemented and improved
- Increased range on POLY MODE - FIL ENV
- Added a LPF to the Aftertouch function to smoothen the response and make it more musical
Fixes:
- Reduced Settings save timer from 47 to 3 sec. which solves all issues related to settings not being stored after a power cycling
- Resolved ARP UP-DN issue when only one key is pressed
- Improved LFO target: resolved Ab, A and b settings
- Resolved CC=59, LFO target for Ab, A and b which was related to an issue where LFO target was not working when connected to a DAW
- Resolved voice assign issue to the same note, related to some Yamaha piano instruments
Please send some love to our software engineers, who even worked while being on vacation. You guys are heroes

Thanks to Starsky Carr also then, for bringing up all those issues. Maybe he will redo his comparison video with the update. I won't be buying one but I am keeping an eye on future poly synths (UB-Xa).

Out of interest, are Prologues sorted out now? I'm mulling over getting either the Minilogue XD or possibly a Prologue8. Drifting tuning was the main issue IIRC? I'm more likely to get an XD as I don't really need a big poly, but the GAS is always lurking, and the 2 new Behringer polys just don't wow me. Whereas I know I like Korg filter character...despite mutterings about discontinuation, Prologues are very much still for sale here.D-Fusion wrote: Tue Jul 11, 2023 10:47 pm Behringer has just anounced that a update is comming with double the Vcf adsr Amount and some minor bugfixes and more features and goodies will come in later Firmwares
Even with this ruff start with some quirks here and there it is still a better experience than i had for months with my Korg Prologues![]()

The tuning Warbling where fixed in a firmware update but i haven't owned a Prologue since 2019-2020 so i am not sure what state they are in today or how well they work now.kritikon wrote: Wed Jul 12, 2023 9:22 pmOut of interest, are Prologues sorted out now? A XD would be a safer buy since the Prologues are discontinued + if you really like it and want 8 voices later you can add another one and polychain them

If its optional Im all for choices as long as you can get updates but keep the OG functionality…for $400 Im wanting the flavour more than a do everything synth, just me of courseD-Fusion wrote: Wed Jul 12, 2023 10:21 amYou are not locked to the Snappier envelopes only and can Use one of the other ones that are in the original Gligli version instead.kcearl wrote: Wed Jul 12, 2023 12:08 am I dont think this will ever sound identical to the 600 because Behringer gave already introduced snappier envelopes and have another firmware update coming that includes user requests. Have you owned an OG? I’ve had several and thought they sounded pretty mediocre, even with the Gligli. They were great for the price, of course (just as the Pro 800 is), but don’t expect a Prophet-5.

If they released this as a standard P600 i would have passed on it (Even at $399).
With GliGli and Even Faster Envelope mode + other Goodies promised down the Road to bring it up to 2023 Standard is what made me buy it.
+ I like the "Mediocre", Sound it has which is more of a Softer Tamed Prophet Compared to The Pro 1 or Prophet 5 which make it great as a Poly Synth and i have my Mono's If i need Balls to the Walls sound

I think thats it, “great for the price”…I have near 30 synths but this will just be a flavour and a great unit to take around the house as most of my synths are keys. Pair with some decent pedals I think Ill get what I want out of it
