In my experience, Fabfilter support has been spot on.
Someone had transferred me upgrade to Twin2 once and I didn't have Twin. We solved it via FB messenger and they refunded the seller the 10€ transfer ticket and transferred the plugin back to them. They didn't have to because it was poor communication on my and seller's behalf. Nobody was charged anything, they simply reversed the transfer because I asked them.
Nothing had to be made public for them to solve this quickly and without any questions.
They also said to me when i bugged them about Twin2, that people who buy new versions within 2 month period get free 2-month grace period update to next version. Well, it was a few weeks over 2 monhts and they did grace period anyway.
Their major updates are 20-30€/update, more decent that a lot of vendors out there.
They also update everything in extremely timely manner and keep maintenance for really old stuff, which some companies simply abandon and force you to go to new version if you wish to just have it working. They don't do that. Plugins release years ago received M1 updates for example.
There's a couple of devs that work that way, but not all, and most popular contenders are WAY worse.
They're one of the few companies i don't even blink when they do updates. They update? I buy.
I’m following you here for more than an year, because I find your posts very informative. I get your point and totally respect your opinion. I also like the interface and user experience of FabFilter plugins, and my EQ of choice is Pro-Q 3.
I’m also in a similar situation as you having latest versions Pro-Q/C/L/MB/G as well as Saturn and Timeless, but reading this story and seeing no official statement from the developers here made me stop at this amount of FF plugins. As it comes to Proteinshake’s disabled account, I’m afraid that FF have put themselves in a Zugzwang. Then had the chance to ask him first - they have the email and possibly even the postal address of their client, before choosing to lock their customer out without any explanation
I have mixed feelings about their support, because of their stance on 64bit float. In the same time as you said M1 support came quickly (no matter that I don’t have a Mac) and that’s impressive. I’m afraid that all current developers use some dishonest business practices at some point and I will probably give myself a break from getting new plugins and focus more on improving my knowledge on currently owned plugins, but that’s strictly my own decision.
