He's the keyboard player in my band. He did one OSC (I think January) and shared some of his other synthwave tracks here in the forum. He's a very good musician.

I'm a guitarist who has been a slowly learning dabbler in synths and computer music.

I cast my vote, good luck to everyone

I didn'know where to write this - here or in Soundcloud, but may be doesn't meter.I thanks for all comments and advices for Different Deep track. But it has 28 feedbacks,a half of them not negative, but some OSC-ers said:**This I can't listen in headpfones,is too loud...***...?? :o Why you listen only with headpfones?I :o

I work only through speakers, my headphones create a feeling of unreal compression of all instruments, so - your feeling will not be the same when you hear the same track through a device, it will not be like with headphones. LFS does not help. If it shows -12 or more, but I don't have enough power /space - I will increase it until it sounds good to me.
There are some objective loudness measurements by LUFS, etc. This simply ensures that if everyone keeps the tracks within certain limits, then by turning on the entire playlist at the same volume, you will not encounter tracks that are too loud or too quiet.

In addition, this community of course includes many professionals or passionate enthusiasts with decent equipment, but there is no minimum entry threshold. For example, I just don't have good speakers worthy of OSCers music made with love and attention. And (not speaking for others) It's strange for me to hear something like, "If my music doesn't sound good to you, then it's your equipment."

I myself am not very good at volume yet, my track for ExtraBold seems to have turned out to be too quiet and this only partially satisfies my idea. A crude but effective method of the last check is to directly compare your track with the tracks of participants with a similar character (character of the tracks, not the participants), either by downloading it to your PC or by already uploading your track to SC but not yet publishing it. OSC is a great place to learn the theory and practice of basic musical skills, let's learn together! :tu:

Oh yes, I have voted, too. Pretty sure I'll keep it that way, while there are a number of 5s. But, yeah... bravo everyone!

You guys in a big hurry for a reason? That's a lot of music to judge so quickly.

Post

I voted too. @empphryio idk about the others but it was an all-day affair, certainly not a hurry. I just like digging in

Definitely took a few hours. It's hard labor at times! :hihi:

...in 28 entries I have never seen 4 people on day 2 announce they were finished. Most of us need multiple listens with sleeps inbetween. Listen once, sleep. Listen again, sleep. Listen at least a third.

Of course you can do as you like.

In the beginning it felt pretty clear that the challenge is paramount, like "how far was a given synth taken in terms of production quality". Personal preferences would account for a lower percentage. Over time things sort of slipped more into the realm of preferences, favours and all manners of reasonings. Unfortunately that included personal grievances and the likes. A bit of kindergarten, so to say.

No idea how things went over the last year that I wasn't around much at all, but it would be great to get back to more objective rating, as it really is most helpful for everybody, even if you didn't like their genre or taste. But they shouldn't have to bend to get encouraged, but to evolve what they love creating. Tough ask, but it's not bad to keep that in mind. :tu:
Who do you feel was being treated unfairly?

This feels to me as if I am being judged for the way I reviewed last month's 37 submissions. During the month of September, I listened to the early entries from time to time and also commented on SoundCloud where I felt the need to comment. Furthermore, I can assure you that I always listen very intently and can form a good opinion of what I think of it after one listen. That is part of my profession. I find it very important to judge conscientiously and where I want to comment, to do so carefully. Sometimes critically and often with great enthusiasm. And also often a combination of the two. And for some entries I don't write a comment, which doesn't mean that those pieces get a low assessment from me or that they didn't move me. Then I just have nothing to add. The last thing I want to say is that the coming month is a very busy one for me and the day before yesterday I was sick. So that was a perfect time to spend half a day listening to everything properly. Something I would struggle to do in a week or so.
