Rubber Bands and Bits of String!
You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling!
Something!
If!
Actually, at the time I thought "If" was kinda cool. Given that the guy has no singing voice to do a spoken version of that song was creative. Of sorts.

But then the follow-ups went downhill. Fast.

I guess every bass player knows about the bass part of Something, but take a listen to Silly Love Songs. That bass part is utterly amazing. I read an interview with the guy from the Brothers Johnson, and he mentioned that bass part as one of his inspirations.

I had to Google that one. It turns out that if you type this:

Code: Select all

Parody "Brand New Key"
into google, you get a lot of references to different parodies of that song, including one about elections in Florida. I'm a bit surprised people are still using that one, even for a parody.

take care,

did this even qualify as a song

Also why do people give P McC a hard time for writing catchy riffs???,I have to admit I used to go along with the "johns stuff was better" idea , but since I'm now a grown up and can really speak for myself I think entertainers giving their view point on issues like war and poverty is one thing but pure entertainment is definatly something else, and Paul has and does still purely entertain people as far as I'm concerned.

Just saw Pauls live at red square thingy recently and
boy was I amazed at all of the wings stuff that is (ok sometimes sickly catchy) really good
-Let em in
-Junk
-Live and let die , c,mon like WOW!!
-maybe I'm amazed

if any of us here could write catchy stuff like that we probably wouldn't have the time to post on here what with the live gigs , record releases etc.

hmmm just saying that's all.

iiiiiiiiiiiooooooooouuuuuuuuuu
ahem
I never said it was all bad
we're talkin wings here, not beatles tunes which is where most all of his good work resides (btw he didn't write 'junk')
now that I'm all grown up I still think alot of it was catchy crap..or just plain crap.
and I never made mention of JL
(I have my own theory that people would say 'Johns stuff was better' because he did not unload quite so much 'filler' on his fans)

which reminds me
I would also like to nominate 'cook of the house' for worst song
ever

having said all that I would also like to nominate 'venus and mars' as one of the best albums from the 70's

and I always have to sing along to 'juniors farm' 8)

the worst...simple "I wish you were a beer" by Cycle sluts from hell :hihi:
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Eh? Ahem Ahem!!

If I was reffering to you I would've quoted you,
which I didn't. I was just asking why people always make that derogatoery mcCartney remark when they're talking about beatles songs that's all, and you gave your opinion(the filler part) good for you.

Come on guys, how can you miss "I'll be your long haired lover from Liverpool" by little (but large) Jimmy Osmond.

Dire mention goes to anything by the Bee Gees and the Bay Shitty Strollers.

Fortunately, I've been out of touch of the TOTP genre for several years so no longer have to put up with the puerile crap that gets put out these days, however, a recent disco song "Sha-na-na in the morning" really wound me up. Couldn't escape it: elevators, Wanchai discos, Phillipina amahs singing karaoke, supermarkets, even a bloody flight to the mainland. I swear if I ever meet that group... :x

Kenny Everett had an album compilation out decades ago ("In the worst possible taste" perhaps??), which included Shatner's attempt amongst various others. You may still find it in a second hand bin somewhere. Good or a laugh.

What kind of worst?

Purely unlistenable
- evan parker, fred frith, john zorn
Trying but unlistenable anyway
- disposable songs for disposable singers
Trying, unlistenable, but who cares?
- your local "all ages" punk show
Not even trying
- celebrity albums, song-poems
Inspiration for largest amount of bad behavior
- elvis, rolling stones, metal in general
Wrong content for music
- soviet "I-love-my-tractor" institutional folk,
- christian metal, cookie monsters
Not bad song, but iconic of excess
- the end, american pie, heroin

And the worst of the worst...
So catchy you'll poke a stick in one ear and out the other to let it escape

What song can't you even bear to mention for fear it will be stuck in your head for a week?

Post

"Ebony and Ivory" by Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder. Some real lame wankerage by two accomplished writers.

Nice notion behind it and all buuuuuuut....when I first heard this tune it made me want to cut myself with dull obsidian knives.

"Ebony and Ivory
Live together in perfect harmony
Side by side on my piano keyboard
Oh Lord, why don't we ?"

WE ARE THE CHEEKY GIRLS, WE ARE THE CHEEKY GIRLS, WE ARE THE CHEEKY GIRLS, WE ARE THE CHEEKY GIRLS, WE ARE THE CHEEKY GIRLS, WE ARE THE CHEEKY GIRLS.
The best lyrics of all time. Such depth, we humans are not able to appreciate it with our premitive minds.
Or how about a new song that goes
CALL ON ME, CALL ON ME, CALL ON ME, CALL ON ME, CALL ON ME, CALL ON ME, CALL ON ME, CALL ON ME, CALL ON ME....
