I was really busy last night working on a couple of new tunes.
Both of them were just practice using my new R8, but they turned out well.
I find that I get a better workflow using REAPER and LMMS as synths (plugin hosts) instead of as DAWs. Other than that, backed up my DAWs, updated REAPER, and sorted my cables.
Now I'm going to read my R8 manual to figure out track bouncing.
I also downloaded some new freeware acoustic LV2 drumkits from the AV Linux website.
Those might also help me improve my drumming.

I guess I'll stop spamming this thread.
Carry on, fair musicians. Don't give up.

Recorded a new song (in Russian) with my Ukrainian music partner Kamila, and spent a bunch of time getting to know my new synth (Dreadbox Artemis).

Please continue sharing, if it's not preventing you from working on music. Don't think of it as spamming. Some of us enjoy reading about what others are doing, even if we don't share as much as we'd like.mjolnir wrote: Thu May 08, 2025 11:19 pm I guess I'll stop spamming this thread.

Mjolnir I do read most of your posts even though I don’t participate. They’re appreciated!

Well, I’ve fallen down a bit of a rabbit hole researching some video fx in davinci resolve, then discovering procreate dreams iPad app.
I have an idea for a music video that is above my skill level, but I’m still hoping to pull it off. I’ve been trying to brush up on drawing skills and then hoping to translate them into tiny animations. I am super rusty.
On the music side I’ve been recording different modular bits using Jumbler. It’s been fun but still not sure which ones will be used for what. I might toss one up on YT just to move on from it.

Same! Reading about other people’s studio output inspires (shames?) me to get in the studio when I’m feeling lazy.elxsound wrote: Fri May 09, 2025 2:56 am Mjolnir I do read most of your posts even though I don’t participate. They’re appreciated!

I'm finishing up a mastering project. Mostly just file management stuff to be done at this point. Backing up sessions, preparing deliverables... the boring part. Also the part where I'm most likely to make a mistake because I'm excited and rushing.

I can relate. I just wish I had as much time as I have interests.elxsound wrote: Fri May 09, 2025 3:03 amI have an idea for a music video that is above my skill level, but I’m still hoping to pull it off. Definitely! I think this is why I've always liked Groundhog Day. All those skills he mastered without aging!justin3am wrote: Fri May 09, 2025 3:57 amI can relate. Indeed. If there were a 'things I didnt get around to doing but want to' thread, I'd have filled KVR's hard drives by now.justin3am wrote: Fri May 09, 2025 3:57 am I can relate. I just wish I had as much time as I have interests.
An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

I haven’t completed anything for months, still mucking around with a bunch of things.
Latest was just recording and playing a bunch of self-resonating filters and chucking every bit of modulation on hand at them. Ended up pretty atonal but could be some atmos between tracks or a sample source.

Today I tried some autosampler demos (both failed). But I have other things planned:
1) Plans for overdubs for my saved final(?) tunes to spruce them up... I find historically that this truly ipmproves tunes a LOT and is easier than starting from scratch on a brand new tune.
2) Bought a power adapter and batteries for my new ZOOM R8 so I can take it beyond my DAW in my closet space. As it turns out, the typical cellphone USB power adapter works just fine for the R8. USB power tend to be standardized, so I think the mismatch risk is low, and the R8 worked just fine when I tried it with the adapter. For batteries, I'm using rechargeables.
This summer I plan on racking my brains to think of wierd samples to add to the music to spice things up. Back when I was homeless (last year) I got ideas for samples constantly, but I didn't have the proper tools.
It's wierd not being homeless, because now I have the tools, but no ideas!
3) Supposedly the MPC Beats software has VSTi sampling so maybe I can use that. Hopefully it has VST3 sampling or it might not be worth it anymore. Either way, the idea is to use my R8 as a performance tool. I have ideas of 8-note chromatic melodic templates to use with the 8 pads. If it works out, it should have a minimalistic 1990s sound, and a lot of it will probably be in mono or light stereo. But hopefully the ideas will be good.
4) Later this year I might buy a cheap desk so I can finally work in a more dignified way than on a bench in my closet(!). But this is unresolved because the sound levels are controlled while in the closet, and too loud when in the open air of the bedroom. And when I'm loud, my housemates get even louder for longer! So maybe I'll stay "in the closet" LOL.
5) I've been browsing over at https://loopmasters.com trying to see if there's any pro commercial samples that I'd want to use. If I find something that matches my style this could help me get to the next level.
Thanks for lifting my spirits you guys.
Peace.
P.S.- I had some good luck creating dubstep amplitude wobbles ("wubs") with this (not really a filter, but oh well):

I deleted most of the presets and just kept these three settings. But if you switch between them while playing, you can get some arpeggiation similar to old school dubstep triplets. I don't at all use this plugin (or any plugins) for sidechain pumping. You could probably get more convincing wubs/wobbles using TAL-Filter-2 or run this one through an auto-filter.
